You said this was the worst side. You have picked one of the best. Surprised you didn't choose the Berkovic, Ostenstad one really. We had some great sides but we also had some dire ones with Hurlock in the centre. Perry Groves, Dowie, Speedie, Cockerill, Widdrington. The only thing that kept us up in the early nineties was MLT, Tim Flowers and a cracking pair of centre backs (many combinations) like Monkou, Hall etc. The rest of our midfield was championship and the strikers at time were very very poor. Put Ken Monkou, Richard Hall and Tim Flowers into today's first 11 and it would be a top half side instantly!!!
You see this is what gets me, how can you speculate and it's deemed as valid because it's positive and yet when others do it it's seen as wild speculation? It obvious it's blinkered censorship, why would Lallana not go? And Schneirderlin Ramirez JWP Davis Cork Shaw You notice only two of our transfer window buys in there, that's galling, the other squad possibilities are Puncheon Lambert Sharp Again speculation but it can not be discounted simply because it's deemed as negative.
Morning Jimmy........Lovely bright morning down here in the South....whats it like up in Liverpool? Yes we did buy players while were were in league one.....Did we actually have a choice? It was clear that we did not have a promotion contending side at the time of relegation from the championship! Had we not done, would you have been happy then? While in the Championship we bought a few more and all played a part in our continued momentum. In truth I would not argue if you made a point about us not being ready for the step up. We could have done with another season in the Championship to prepare us for the premier. However we are there and need to adjust quickly. You make a point about tactics.....let us look at those for the moment. Man City we actually should have beaten them according to all that witnessed the game from Pundits to straight forward fans including city's themselves. Defensive errors cost us not tactics!! Although there is those that would argue that it was the substitutions that cost us in those games. The consensus from the experts say not though. Same with the united game we did enough to win it. The only game that you could say he got the tactics wrong was the Arsenal game. Now United have lost two games, Chelsea one. Are you saying that they got their tactics wrong for those games? Or would you argue that they just lost those like anyone else can on a bad day. I would say it is a combination of both. So is Adkins not allowed to make mistakes the same as the best or so called best? As for saying Saints are negative now you really are taking the pee!! I can only suggest you have a very narrow view as to what a game of football actually is in reality. It is very clear that you have not seen Saints play that often!! We applaud him because we believe he will turn it round. If we go down then we go down.......not all managers are bad because they had a team get relegated. Strachan has had it happen to him twice yet he was good for us. Lawrie Mac did it in his first season as a manager down here yet look at his History with the club. You say poor buys........Now do you have a magic formula whereby any player that is brought to a club is going to be a star and Guaranteed? Of the strikers he has bought is there any that have not contributed, given the time they have had on the pitch? What about midfielders have they not contributed? You say some are made of glass, again I presume you have a magic formula to stop a player getting injured!! Yes NA is still learning this is his first time managing in the Premier. Yes again at the current state of affairs we are likely to be relegated. If that is the case who better to get us back up again? You are right of course our expectancy was/is a lot higher than is being achieved at the moment......but do you know we that go regularly can see the improvements and are confident that he will get it right...So why the hell not back him??
Jimmy, that 99/2000 team was full of experienced pros who knew the Premiership and how to play in it, but take out LeTiss who was in his last season anyway, and there's less creative talent there than in our current squad. Lack of premiership experience is costing us, but in the meantime the players are gaining that experience.
Go what? I am not GMI, his posts were well interesting to say the least! He does not post anymore and since then neither do many others, I noticed that when I wad not a member, he at least as poor as his reasoning skills were stirred the pot of conversation and debate(sometimes too much) but now it seems as quite sterile and agreeing, that's not a forum.
HE MAY WEll but it also depends on how much someone is prepared to pay for him and also if he wants to play lower half of the prem or be a sub for a higher up team. As I said above I can see him going but then again he might not He won't be here next season if we stay up or not IMO He will stay He will go Same as Schneiderlin You're joking with me now right Lol. He can go but we try to offload him before and were unsuccesful. Will be 31 and playing for a club he is loving. Will he want to scrap it at a lower prem club? And will this be a big loss? Not saying it will be negative but you are taking the scenario of other clubs that just get anyone for a season from anywhere and pay silly money. Why would a player we took in L1, who has been on the bus suddenly jump when we went out of the Prem, and of the above players how many clubs are going to pay the transfer fee Nicola will set on them? For me I can only see dead wood and those who we have just signed leaving. Certainly not Shaw or JWP and wether we stay up or go down we will definitely be making moves to reinforce our aging centre backs. Far too negative matey. We will go down with a decent remnant of the current squad, strengthen and unless we stay in the NPC those academy players are going nowhere.
Even knowing about a limit on name changes. How about that? Nobody new in any situation - from being new at work to being new on a forum - goes in and from the off tries starting arguments and causing controversy.

I didn't realise that everyone who lived in Liverpool and supported Saints was unable to hold any form of argument together. Must just be a coincidence. It's actually very sad. Edit - I know it's not everyone in Liverpool Channon!!
We disagree on things all the time, such as performances, lineups, etc. etc. but I think most of us can agree that we don't want to jump to conclusions about things that we know nothing about. As for Adkins, well we've had quite a few people say that they'd like to see him sacked, but the majority still think he's doing a good job. We had a poll and everything.
You see like a pack of hounds descending on their prey, tantamount to cyber bullying this all for having a different opinion. I wonder when changes happen who will be in what corner, Adkins or Cortese? Thats a diliema.
It's not like everyone on this forum is united in trying to chastise certain people. You just happened to say something that most people disagree with. What did you think would happen? We're disagreeing with you because we disagree with you, not because we want someone to bully!
No positive would be: Adkins is a god and we will not be going down. My opinion is reality: We are in the Prem much earlier than expected with a young inexperienced side with a young inexperienced manager and are struggling however we are in a building process and the signs are promising however much the results and table suggest not. For the future there are the green shoots of a bright young side growing, for the present the outlook is bleak. I have supported Saints for 30 odd years. I hopefully will live to support them another 30 years. What happens now will affect the future so I don't like any idea of short term-ism of New manager new team just to become the same as we were pre-admin. Your opinion is either worded badly or you are very much focused on the now. Wanting Prem at all costs and wanting to disregard Cortese's ambition. I don't read his statement and then think 'Great I'm supporting a future champions league team' I read it and think great the guy is building for the future and not just playing around for his own enjoyment for a few years. Whatever happens I've worn a Saints shirt and listened too ridicule from ManU, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Leeds fans for 30 years. Never got angry, never tried to argue with their 'Your crap' rhetoric. I was always smiling though and been proud to wear the shirt. I will continue to do so but I can see why we are where we are, why NA/NC are following a philosophy and it is encouraging for the future. If in 10 years time we are scratting around at the bottom of the Prem or are still struggling to get out of the NPC then that philosphy will have been proved wrong but I'm prepared to 'buy into the dream'
Rubbish, that GMI fellow was hounded off this board, his arguments were basic but he seemed to know more about football than nearly everyone on here, his opinions were opposed to many and yet his opinion was vilified and he was thrown to the wolves, the forum is a far poorer more sterile place without him than with him, this is the only team board on this site where nearly everyone has the same opinion.
