He was set to play for Mourinho eight years ago, then got cold feet (or his relatives got bullets in the post, I forget which...)

Why cite that 'news' paper? Even without Hillsborough it would have no credibility.

Fortunately I know what the story pertains to because I followed the 'askStevieG' session. And you know you're talking ****e just as much as I do <laugh>

I think that we all know that Gerrard's not going to leave Liverpool for Real.
He wouldn't get into their side.

Maybe Jose's told him that hes taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson next year. I don't actually know which set of supporters would be more outraged to be honest!

Come on now, we all know Don Corleone made him an offer he couldn't refuse (or so the stories go).

As a side note, I find it kind of interesting that after Suarez got abused on here for daring to suggest that a term used in his homeland was not a racial term in the context used, there is a thread on your board defending a derogatory term used by your fans because you use it in a different context. I'm not saying your wrong, but?

Context. The intent of Spurs fans is not in question. It's clearly a show of solidarity.
Suarez was attempting to provoke Evra by using a reference to his race. There's no comparison.

As I say, I'm not saying your wrong, but I am sure you can understand that language can be interpreted in many ways, as highlighted in the FA's comprehensively researched findings by linguistic experts in the Suarez case. Lets say a Jewish foreign fan comes to the Lane for a European match not knowing Spurs history and hears the term being used. Would they be wrong in being offended that such language was used, even though you use it as a show of solidarity?

Anyway there is a thread for whether its right or wrong, I'm just highlighting the fact that Suarez was afforded no such luxury of defence, given that Suarez didn't start the argument and at no point did he swear or raise his voice (from Evra's own evidence) it's hard to say if he attempting to provoke Evra.

He pinched his arm and said that he didn't speak to blacks.
Hard to see that as anything other than a provocation.

Did he? I guess you were closer to the incident than most.

But yeah, sorry, your completely right, Suarez admitting he used a term used without negative connotations in his homeland is completely different from Spurs fans using a term that is used without negative connotations within the Tottenham Hotspur community.

Apologies, if you don't see any comparison I guess there isn't one.

I like to look at things a bit subjectively, in the same manner as the Clattenburg case. There is no way I'm going make a claim that its inconceivable that Suarez would racially abuse someone, but without any clear evidence I'm not going to condemn the man of such offence, I'm going to take his word that it was used in the context he explained given that he didn't shy away from the accusations (if he had claimed he absolutely didn't use any language of the sort, whether it be a non offensive word in his homeland or not, and evidence clearly showed he did, I would then doubt his subsequent reasoning). These incidents are rarely clear cut (I was going to use another term but that could be looked at negatively) misunderstanding and finding things in an argument that were not there (as explained by Evra's changing descriptions of both the words used and the understanding of their meaning) can happen, particularly when we are dealing with people using different languages.

All I'm saying is, you can understand that language can be used in different context with different meaning, no?

But then again, hell what do I know

So it was said, funnily enough you believed the reports that time :)

Suarez had already GOT to Evra, which is why Evra initiated the abuse yet got no punishment but why let the truth get in the way of a good story eh.

The whole point is Noone knows what actually happened and everyone has their opinions, thing is, people like you make a call based on pure opinion and go with it as fact, this is the major part of the problem.

Because nothing could be proved no one could face a charge yet that didn't happen.

If Jewish people attending WHL games ARE offended by the term shouted, REGARDLEss of its meaning by Spurs fans those Jewish fans will feel like it is directed at them, so in the context of what you said about Evra Suarez then..your lot are also guilty, 1 because we dont need proof, what we believe is enough and 2 because of perceived offence, by the Evra case logic, and yours <ok>

Personally, I think there is feck all to either case, one was overpaid athletes having handbags and this new fiasco some overactive PC nonsense, I've met a real racist and I had no idea the guy was until the subject came up, his face changed totally, a really unpleasant experience I must say, was actually apprehensive about questioning his fked up beliefs he was that angry about the subject

Can I just say, with all this talk we have been subjected to over the last year regarding race and the actions of the footballing community. if there is ever an example to show that the vast majority of people involved in football are good, decent people, Muamba being willed to live by an entire stadium full of people from all different races and backgrounds would be it.
