Tell ya what Cyc, I think they do a cracking job of the coverage. Build up was great. Some of those ladies goodness me HELLO.
Green Moon ran in the same maiden as Mount Athos at Newbury in October 2009. Finished ahead then too....
Wonderful reminder of the sire - the late great Montjeu. He has now sired a Breeders Cup turf and Melbourne Cup winner in just over a year- a fitting tribute.
Not unlike the pitmans derby...draw wise even for a 2m race...drawn high no chance. Amazed at how many jocks tucked in half a furlong behind off a moderate pace.
Barriers haven't played a significant role in the past 30 years. Barriers 1-8 have provided 10 winners, barriers 9-16 have provided 12 winners and barriers 17-24 have provided eight winners.
Interesting stat Cyc..maybe the guys drawn high today got their tactics wrong or perhaps the best contenders were drawn low...simple as that maybe.
I ran away for a few minutes and when I returned Cumani's daughter was saying something about her dad. Did she say that after today's race, he'll not be back?
Superb call TopClass, well done! . (Mount Athos ran well, finished like a train to finish 5th, but 5th place don't pay the bills! Pity Ryan Moore could not get him in to a better position earlier-on from a pretty moderate pace? Take nothing from the winner Green Moon though, great effort). (Thanks for the thread, Cyc! Back to bed for me LOL).
Eventually saw it in the HK Jockey Club premises (that's a betting shop to you and me) in Hankcow Road, TST, and was about the only one shouting 2 furlongs out. I'd say the locals were not on any of those. Nice run from Fiorente but the winner always had him held. Good job the HK$ were on to place, paid 19/2 and the return was enough for lunch!! Well done TopClass. Nice selection.
Cheers Gents. Bit groggy heading to work on the old train commute but pretty happy! The draw played into my horses hands. I did think watching it that if Green Moon was settled after getting that great position, that nothing would outstay him. Only concern was if he had used up some fuel getting out the gate. Looks a cracking day at the races at Flemington right? Dex that is some sire record. Wow.
