Off-topic: Obama or Romney?

I think he was suggesting that you saying "don't vote" was stupid. But I could be wrong.

 

If so, that's still a ****ty suggestion. It's better to not vote at all than to take a wild stab in the dark. People should either learn the relevant facts or stay out of it.

I would agree on that. I don't understand voting patterns in some places. Harlow (which is like a 2nd home to me) - went blue. Seriously wtf?

It's always been Labour and has what you'd consider a very non-traditional Conservative support base now.

Not to be rude but there's loads of unemployed, and single parents. And loads of council housing, it baffles me.

If one isn't working, they vote the other and then back again. Ah well.

 

Well it certainly didn't look that way, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. If you re-read your comment, I think you'll see it looks a lot like you're telling me not to vote. Anyway, I'd like to hear an actual reason that you'd go for Romney, based on his actual policies. It really winds me up when people vote based on logic like "it's time for a change". It ****s democracy and leaves us with these two-party systems we're stuck with.

Unless we change the first past the post voting system, we're always going to have Labour and Conservative battling it out.

As for Romney I honestly haven't followed it enough to have formed an opinion other than hearing in the news that he pissed the Republican nomination & knowing he obviously was the overwhelming Republican choice to take on Obama

As far as being fed up with the time for a change brigade - Labour in 1997 & Tories in 2010, people simply vote for change as they see that the incumbents don't deserve another term on the last term's performance.

 

But they have no idea if the alternative will be any better. Also people blame the government for things that were largely out of their hands, such as the recession.

On the contrary, the recession is in their hands. They're not responsible for the eurozone crisis or the sub-prime fiasco in the states but they didn't need to bail out the banks with our money and they don't need to pursue a misconceived austerity drive either.

 

Surely that's effect, not cause? What I mean to say is that the Labour government didn't directly cause the recession, although the people of this country would like to blame all economic ups and downs on them. What the government has done, is doing, and will do to combat recession is another matter.

 

Sure Labour didn't cause the recession, what government wants to do that, but they did a very poor job at preparing us for it when it came. Brown even declared boom and bust had ended. Labour also had a warning about possible banking issues a year before the sub prime disaster when Northern Rock failed and the government stepped in but still didn't have the sense to look into the whole banking sector.

People do sometimes vote for the image of a leader instead of the reality of whats happening. Labour took over in '97 when crime was already falling and the economy was improving. They then surfed that wave through one of the longest global boom periods, in recent history but left no cash to help with the recovery when the crash happened.

That's my view, take it or leave it. I'm not anti Labour, just disappointed about their failures and synical about their criticisms about the current government efforts when many of their shadow cabinet (Balls, Miliband) were there when the last govornment failed so badly. I voted for Obama as i think he's doing his best in a bad situation.

 

why anyone would vote for romney is beyond me.. he could not care less about the not so well off and only concerned about his rich mates....just like the tory toffs who dont have a clue about the real world.....all you hear is Blame labour for this, Blame labour for that and not the real people who got us into a huge mess the Banks plus a world recession.dont get me wrong labour got some things wrong that every government does when in power but these Tory idiots are making things worse while giving billions away in aid to other countries and forcing our own less well off to make unreasonable cut backs while they still live like kings....and they get well paid with generous expenses.....Why are some people fooled by these idiots....roll on the next election and get rid of these toffs and whipe out the lib dems for good now they have shown their true colours and only wanted a bit of power while letting their voters down .....they are tory puppets and nothing else that will pay heavily in the next election....
