Chelsea of Old as I'd say. Although Spurs haven't performed well against any of the lesser sides, apart from QPR for 45 minutes whereas you've done well against Chelsea and United. Same. I've never seen any team open Man U up at free will at Old Trafford like we did when we went there and lost 3-1. It was the most undeserved loss I've ever seen but no Chelsea fan I know was at all bothered, it actually breathed belief and confidence into us and AVB's "project". I can take losing like that. I can even accept some days where it just doesn't happen for you and go your way (Birmingham away a few seasons ago as I described) but what is hard to take is when you see no passion, direction, creativity week in week out. This hasn't happened with Spurs yet and I can't say I've seen enough of Spurs to judge but from what I hear Spurs have been sub-par in terms of performances. City away and Arsenal away are when we will really find out about the character of AVB's Spurs. It could be a massive turning point in the season either way. We say this all the time but the next NLD between you and Arsenal is pivotal in terms of momentum charge. It's incredible to think the last few seasons an NLD has averaged about 4/5 goals a game but both sides go into it struggling for creativity.
I have to agree with the sentiments of those fans somewhat, OS. As I put on another thread, he seems to have his (according to what we read) meticulously worked out game plan. The problem is that when this "master plan" doesn't work, he seems completely lost. There is no cogent plan B, so therefore he resorts to haphazard, even panicky substitutions. We all know the way he likes to play, the two problems with that are, firstly he currently lacks a playmaker in midfield. The second is that the rest of the world knows how he's going to play, and adapts to counter that. In short, he's far too inflexible and lacking in creative ideas. Not exactly the visionary that we were all assured he was.
Blimey it,s only Booing. As football is run not on democratic lines it is one of the few ways the great unwashed can show their true feelings. We can be thankful that we have the demi god Levy at the helm. His strategic brilliance will pull us through. On another point the quality of football has been the worse for many a year. No tempo, creativity , style, have made many not a enjoy the Neo Spurs way.
This thread was interesting reading, until you couldn't resist and had to bring your Liverpool obsession into it. So, as you brought it up, I don't think Hodgson was ever booed at anfield, we've got more class than that. And I personally never saw a 'Hodgson Out' banner, though they may well have existed, as he was truly awful as our manager.
Bang on. Spurs started booing AVB a few games into the season. And they call us deluded for expecting top 4 a few years ago....
I'm not into booing during the game, and I'm not saying I would have booed at the end, but I honestly can't blame the fans who did at the end. AVB and Levy together have messed up our team, and it's not good at all. It's true we have been unlucky with injuries, but luck wasn't the issue with our failure to buy Lloris and Ade earlier, and indeed another striker earlier as well. And AVB hasn't handled the Dawson, Lloris and Ade situations at all well, plus his dumb substitutions, grrrr. Generally speaking the atmosphere at the Lane these days is poor and I do blame the majority of the fans for not getting behind the team during the game. However if they've sung and cheered for the team, and team hasn't responded, then I could understand booing at the end. Of course the loudest booers are likely to be those who make little effort to support the team during the match and I've no time for them at all. It's a mess these days with our crowd, ENIC's massive failure to increase our capacity during the past 11 years of their reign has left us relying on sky high prices which help to alienate the fans and prevent some of the more vocal from attending.
In fairness at least Spurs gave/have given AVB a chance. I never thought Hodgson ever got that at Liverpool. He had just replaced one of the most admired Liverpool managers ever in Benitez and had a club legend Dalglish peering over his shoulder and undermining him. Booing AVB is a bit harsh admittedly though. I can't say we ever did that (certainly not at Stamford Bridge)
Of course Defoe had been such a threat all afternoon that it was an outrage to take him off. You do realise that to get a point from 1-0 down you don't just have have to score, you have to score one more than the opposition who were already making more chances than us. Adebayor for Defoe gave us more chance of a goal without increasing the chance of us conceding. Adebayor for Dempsey would have made us look even more open because Defoe does nothing to help the team in this sort of situation. You're welcome to disagree with this but it is not 'ridiculous'. The only 'ridiculous' decision that AVB has made is selecting Friedel over Lloris which cost us another point yesterday as the goal was a clear keeper error. And most of you agree with him on that one.
Can people not see that the reason we've dropped too many unnecessary points is not the system, nor the selections, but simply because we're making too many errors. The cause of that is that we've got a lot of top players missing and their replacements are more inconsistent (which is why they are not first choice in the first place). There is clearly a lot of pressure on the players at WHL - we've done much better away. Get behind the players - don't undermine them. That makes them tense and nervous and more prone to errors.
yeah,i think we should make Lloris our regular keeper now,even though Friedal made a couple of good stops yesterday,you can see his age is starting to catch up,still a good keeper,but needs to step down now.
between feb 08 and october 08 we won 3 league matches...Ramos was was sacked after that awful 2 points from 8 game start to the 08/09 season. We were found to be the 2nd loudest supporters in the prem after the then newly promoted stoke...we were in a way worse position than now yet we got behind our team even though we were playing some truly terrible football. So where has the booing come from? And why so little patience? On another note ... we as fans condemn lack of loyalty by players (modric etc) but booing after after so few matches into a managers reign doesn't really show much in the way of fan loyalty. Is the lack of loyalty by players being repeated by fans?
I think money has become the devil in football (well... Understatement of the century) and plays a major reason why fans nowadays choose to boo. Being 22, I was never around in the 70's and 80's to witness when football was all about about the passion and money never ruled it as it does today. These days I feel football is no longer a proper sport but more of a business and so in a sense, a fan is technically "investing" when they pay their £35+ for a match ticket and so if the investment doesn't pay off, tempers flair. As I've said countless times I will never boo, I've been going to the Lane for 8 straight years now and missed about 3 home games in that period while also trying to get to as many away games my budget allows me. Sure I get p*ssed off, especially when the team looks so flat as it did Saturday, that was definitely one of the worst performances I've seen from Spurs but I won't boo, it sounds stupid to see a grown man seriously stand there and go "booooooo". However, I'm not going to criticise those that do boo, they pay a lot of money to watch Spurs and when you've seen a performance like that which wouldn't have even earnt a place in a pub team, people are bound to vent their disappointment. The past day or so I've seen on Twitter people say "these people should give their ticket to real fans" I don't think anyone has a divine right to label themselves a "real fan" and others not to be. Anyone that's supported Tottenham since they were a kid is a real fan in my eyes. Because I go to many games, I wouldn't disregard the opinion and value of another fan who say only watches Spurs from home, it's wrong to judge people like that. End of the day people need to accept that others will react differently, it's human nature.
Your absolutely right but times change with expectation. I remember the season we won the league in 09/10 and the first home game we didn't win all season (a draw) there were boos. Compare that to last Sunday when the chips were down and even with 9 men the fans got behind the team and applauded them off at the end. As much as I like Saturday 3pm kick offs, I find them too tense at times and sometimes the support is better during later matches. Jose was the best and worst thing to happen to Chelsea, I'm sure you know what I mean by that. I think Harry is similar for you guys but to a lesser extent, both have left the fans wanting more. Once you've had a taste it's hard to revert back to old times.
As you've been going for a number of years, you'll know that the atmosphere at the Lane has been deteriorating for a few seasons now. In fact I don't think it's been what it used to be since Martin Jol departed. For sure there have been occasions when the stadium has been jumping, but by and large I do feel it isn't what it used to be. Jol was a fans manager who showed genuine affection and connection to the "Spurs way". Redknapp rarely showed our club genuine affection and you always felt he was passising through. Hence more songs about Jol than Harry and so a decline in the atmosphere at many home games. Now we have a manager who has little charisma and so the atmosphere drops another notch to the point where yesterday there were long spells where you could have heard a pin drop. At what stage the booing came into play, I am not quite sure. In all the previous regimes, it has never been too far away and indeed it has featured in at least 4 of our league home games this season. I know of 2 members who now do not bother to go to home games but go to as many away games as possible, becuase the "matchday experience" is consdierably better. Having been to both Southanpton and Norwich in the past week, I agree with them. Our away support is first class and I am sure that will continue. Hopefully we can see that replicated at the Lane very soon, but when the team are ****e as they have been in our home games this season, it's not so easy for a lot of folk.
