Are Seb and Lewis+Alonso real enemies now?

Well I wouldn't call the quotes of Alonso today as a swipe at Seb with regards to Newey and more of a misquote, but it seems Alonso and Lewis' body language was rather distant and somewhat negative towards Seb today and they say he is a bad loser? wow!

More and more people seem to just want a chance to dismiss or act like a bitter prick around this kid that it is truly becoming laughable.

If Seb wins the world title again most comments towards him will just become toxic of the typical double standards as Jackie Stewart likes to remind us with.

I can just see Benson and Jaime getting ready their "This is why Vettel is below Alonso and Lewis" speeches the day he loses the world title to a worthier rival that season.

Hay I don't care if Alonso or Lewis wins the world title again, they earned their right to be in that place but so has Seb and the others even if they dominate!

I seriously think you're reading too much in to this m8. They are competitors, of course they're going to be bummed if the other is beating them and of course there will be some resentment if some of them feel they can't fight due to not having the top machinery at that given moment. I don't think it's any personal vendetta against Vettel... I'm pretty sure they would both like to be in his shoes right now.

Some of this seems like one-man a campaign to defend, uphold and garner support for 'He that should be admired'*! If you step back for an objective moment, I'm sure you'll see the similarity with those who focus on other drivers with similar zeal.

Don't you think your veiled criticism of anyone who may disagree in the future is a bit over the top? Could it be that your guess about "more and more people…" and what they might want to do or how they might wish to behave, and predictions of future comments which may follow your 'ifs'; along with, "…will just become toxic of the typical double standards…", might also sound pretty toxic to some? And if so, might it not simply be inviting others to view this as akin to your own criterion of "double-standards"?

Well in all honesty, I'm a massive fan of Seb though I dont know if you notcied that ;), it's just the unfair attacks and criticism that gets my goat. If he acted like a twat like another drive I supported when I was younger I would understand. But Seb is a nice bloke, he has time for everybody, he treats everybody with respect (unless he loses his temper) I never hear a single bad word about him as a human being etc... But I'm just bloody amazed that over 3 years ago people mostly wished him well in his career, now I'm seeing tweets wanting to shoot his tyres out and complete and utter I hate his guts attitude.

My biggest issue in all of this is a person like Seb doesn't deserve that kind of spite directed at him and now I can see why he avoids all this facebook twitter ****e, people only want to see him fail now. Though I heard Senna got the same stick and major dislike so I guess he wasn't alone history wise. Ok I wont go out and do a video like some person did: LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A driver becoming successful and suddenly people wanting him to lose and hating him! No way! Thats never happened before!

But seriously, it shouldn't be surprising that as you rise to the top more people want to bring you down and Vettel is no exception. And lets be honest, he has had his moments in the past where he has come across as pretty petulant from losing his temper. But still, it shouldn't be some huge shock that people dislike him even though - as you pointed out - they have no reason to.

Very, very few* successful sportsmen are universally liked*. Very, very rarely is it entirely their own fault. It is just the way of the people of the world to knock down those who might stand in the way of one's preference. But does it help their cause to have Missionaries spreading the word to those who live by a different belief system? I would suggest the answer is most often a clear "NO". More often, it bolsters resistance and further entrenches the bigotry we want to put right!

*It may be that an individual is seen as representing something else previously disliked, and becomes a natural target by association regardless of their own personality.
*In my view, the tennis player, Roger Federer is one of the very few exceptions. But even this is only my view – and that's really the point, surely?
 
We have one completely deluded fanboy on this site, surely that is enough Silver, although to be fair at least yours isn't totally over the hill.

Yeah... I don't want to use it as a stick to beat him with, but I did think that was a bit uncalled for and not very gentlemanly. I think we'll put it down to poor lady management skills. :p

There are plenty of sportsmen who were the class of the field that were universally admired. Pele, Bjorn Borg, Federer (as mentioned), Zurbriggen, Usain Bolt, Micheal Johnson to name but a few

Here's the thing though... I really don't think Vettel is universally hated or even mostly hated. He seems to gain more acclaim than your average British driver in the UK.

I'm adressing Silver here:

As a born and bred Aussie it's my sworn duty to hate Vettel and everything about him and RBR. And I'm not going to lie, I do. Hate's a strong word, but I'll use it. Let's face it, I've watched F1 since the start of 2010, so all I've known of F1 is Vettel dominance and I think this one of the key points behind my strong dislike of him. The list of things I can't stand about him is about the length of Miggins' list for Webber, Schumacher and Alonso put together so I'm not going to bother putting them down. I just make it a point not to point it out (until now because this thread seems to be heading in that direction).

I see a lot of crap flung in the direction of Webber and stand idly by and let it happen, because even if I can't see it, they can and I can guarantee that all the defence and well reasoned argument in the world won't change their minds. My point is that you're going to have to accept the conflicting perspectives of both sides. Neither is wrong or right, because that is how they percieve their own arguments.

I can see all the negatives of Vettel and you can't see any of them. We won't see ourselves as being wrong (and we aren't necessarily), and if those are our conflicting perspectives then we must agree to disagree.
