Sunderland AFC News And Banter Page:

Sunderland have completed the signing of forward James McFadden on a short-term contract.

......McFadden is eligible for Stoke tomorrow. Almost certain he won't be involved though, as he continues to work on fitness. #SAFC

Let's hope he has more luck getting fit than Sessengon; who has been trying to get fit since August or Adam 'the new tore andre flo' johnson who has been trying to get fit by drinking as much alcohol as possible in a pub in Castle eden. PS : with regards to adam johnson, the devious maggie bastard (not geordie cos he is from easington).

Yes. A visit to the Castle Eden pub on an evening will provide you with the evidence also. He is at Sunderland for an easy ride and make no mistake about it. The only player in recent history I can remember getting away with being an alcoholic and playing well is Gazza. However, Johnson has nowhere near the ability of Gazza. Furthermore, I will now be accused of being a mag but if 2 players had been assigned to Gazza ; he would have simply dribbled past them. After 3 months we are still waiting for Johnson to dribble past one man.

So as an alcoholic you drink in Castle Eden pub yourself, get drunk and see Johnson drinking every night? Hallucinations??

Your evidence is your own eyes - you've seen him once getting drunk in Castle Eden or do you go to this pub every night?
Seems a little convenient that a bloke who detests black and whites enough to call Colback a Bastard simply for supporting them as a boy (and playing well against them?) has the same opinion of Adam Johnson who admitted he watched Newcastle as a boy - do us all a favour and **** off

WTF has he been doing since the season started then, sitting on his arse piling on the pounds. This move has been on the boards for some time now and you would have thought he would be reasonably fit, if not match fit. Call me a prssemist if you want but a pro of his age should be up to speed in a couple of weeks if he had any pride in himself.

Three-month deal, I read. Bit more time, although he's been on trial for a bit, so I suspect he can't be too far from fitness.

BTW, I see NMG is back to being a two-trick pony, having reverted to being a miserable twat in addition to whingeing about seeing geordies everywhere (fancy that; geordies in the NE!).

Got to say, personally I think McFadden is a better player than people give him credit for and will do well for you guys.

I remember Marcus Stewart was a right plonky. He would be in the Durham Marriott at 1-2-3am some nights and when I finished work at 7am would see him going for a run along the riverside non the worse. Not saying it's the way to go but some people can take a few beers without being overly troubled by it. It might be a choice of sitting at home looking at 4 walls or having a bit of banter in his local among friends.Give the lad a break.

James McFadden is itching to make the most of his chance at Sunderland after being handed a short-term contract by Martin O'Neill.

The forward had been on trial at the Academy of Light after leaving former club Everton at the end of last season.

McFadden, 29, officially became a Sunderland player this morning and believes the move is a good one for both parties.

"I'm delighted - this is a good chance to get back playing football and hopefully earn a longer-term contract," he said.

"I've enjoyed my short time here so far and hopefully I can get the chance to play games and do well.

"I already knew some of the lads but the dressing room has been very welcoming. I felt settled from my first day so it's been good."

McFadden has had a couple of run-outs with the development squad to build his fitness and says he's hoping to have a first-team impact soon.

"I'm getting there but I need games," he said. "The training here is really good, very enjoyable and sharp and I'm feeling better every day.

"It's a hard situation because the more games I play the fitter I'll get, but at the same time I need to get a certain level of fitness before I can do that.

"I hope to be ready as soon as possible and do my bit for the team."

He added: "The manager has told me to work hard and wait for my chance, and hopefully I can take it.

"I'm ready to go as soon as I'm asked - I'm just waiting until I'm needed."

Please tell me why you are signing him? He's 29 and got about 60 goals in 300 apps?

As under whelmed as you can get with this news. He's been training with us for at least two months now and is still not fit, yet we give him a contract albeit a small temporary one.
It's a bit like me training to be a brain surgeon and the hospital paying my substantial wages for a couple of months even though I'm not up to speed yet.
Seriously though I think this is just a stop gap to scare McClean and give Fletcher a teammate he knows to settle in better.

Adams is different type of player. However, there is no way JOHNSon will ever be as good as Best, Merson or Gascoine . In fact I can't recall Johnson ever having a good game.
