Constable country, Flatford Mill, Dedham Vale, The Stour Valley, Newmarket Heath, Lavenham, Bungay, Aldeburgh... There's much to admire in our fair county but to call it curious is just bizarre! Why not call it Constable county after the painter or the Home of Horse racing! The people at the PR agency are obviously spotty young oiks fresh out of uni who don't have a freeking clue!
Nothing wrong with Gorleston, it has one of the best beaches in the country and is separated from Gt Yarmouth by a river so as not to be contaminated by some of the dregs of society who live there.
I do venture into Suffolk for shopping trips with the other half as it's a lot more wheelchair friendly for her than Gt Yarmouth is.
For those that don't know Gorleston and it's surrounding area used to be in Suffolk, the old county border was the river Yare, even to this day there is a pub just before the Haven Bridge called the East Suffolk, I can't remember when the border changed to bring Gorleston into Norfolk but know that Burgh Castle and Belton were in Suffolk until around 1974 (I know this as some of my family are from Burgh Castle).
Going back to Roman times Burgh Castle was on the coast and Gt Yarmouth didn't exist.
The only connection I have to Gorleston is that both my parents died in the "James Paget" eight years apart, so not a happy memory!
frankly, arguing about the merits of norfolk and suffolk is like arguing over who you'd kick out of bed: charlize theron or scarlett johansson. either way, you're on to a winner! the merits of norwich and ipswich however, now that's a different story...
Yes it was as a result of the local Government act of 1974 that Gorleston became part of Norfolk just as Huntingdon and Huntingdonshire and the Isle of Ely got swallowed up into Cambridgeshire. I seem to remember that Newmarket was going to become part of Cambridgeshire but after much local resistance it remained in Suffolk. Wisbech remains in Cambridgeshire although some of the Town is in Norfolk!

. spent many an hour on it during childhood. Also didn't the boundary moving from the Yare to the Waveney happen well before 1974? i might be wrong mind you.

I actually said I couldn't remember when Gorleston moved into Norfolk but I know for a fact it was around 1974 that Burgh Castle was taken into Norfolk, funnily enough I was talking to my Mums cousin about it on Tuesday, she was born in Burgh Castle and has lived there all her life and does talks for school kids visiting the Roman Fort there.
One of my favourite beers ever, although I did regret having 13 pints of it one evening, the next day it felt as if my kidneys had taken a kicking.
i'm sorry jwm but you can't abuse any woodfordes beer, it's quality stuff. Wherry is a great 'session' beer

We might face a war with Essex on that one?! I'm pretty sure he mostly sat on the Suffolk side of the river Stour, painting pretty pictures of Essex.
