The solution to EDGE's original problem is simple: 2 laptops
- a cheap one with decent anti-virus software for his banking/email/personal data activities
- a state-of-the-art one with no anti-virus software for all his porn needs

In my work, I have a "sacrificial" laptop which I use for downloading porn, and my desktop too.
But the laptop is running so slow that I use the desktop to download the porn now, but the uTorrent is as slow as **** now too.

After banging her arse for about 2 hours in the kitchen on Saturday night, I've seen enough arse to last me until tomorrow.
I dunno anything about torrents and stealing movies and ****, but I did notice that she keeps an eye on her downloads and doesn't seed.
What's seeding?
I didny ask her because I doubted she knew why and was doing it because she's been told to.

Apple are a over-priced brand, you can get more for your money from another manufacturer, buy a decent PC and if you wanna keep it clean and fast download AVG, Spybot - Search and destroy, CCleaner and Defraggler. They're all free, there is paying versions which do have some improvements. Download CCleaner and Defraggler on to your current computer and do all the options, you'll notice the difference straight away I reckon.
Also there's TuneUp Utilities which improves your computer performance, you do have to pay for it but if one of your kids already knows about downloading torrents they'll hook it up for free and probably get the payable versions of the other software for free.
Get one that has Intel Core i5 minimum, but if you want it modern and up to speed for a few years get a Intel Core i7 and get all the stuff I said about and do weekly or fortnightly or just when the thing slows down checks and you'll be sorted.
You will get more for your money and a better computer if you don't go with Apple.
HP and Packard Bell are the best manufacturer, don't get a Sony they suck balls, I've had two of their laptops and both died from a over heating problem.
Also always check reviews online about the computer you're interested in just in case it's a load of ballsack with a major flaw like dies from over heating.

Don't be dissing the Sony Vaio
I've got one that's over 6 years old and used daily. Excellent machine.
Having said that, recently it has started to lock up occasionally, which I did suspect to be overheating related. Your experience with them confirms my suspicion.
The laptops I wouldn't go near are Acer.
A really good machine while it lasted. Went completely tits up about a month past it's 2 year warranty. Same with an Acer I'd recommended to someone else 6 months after I'd got mine. Theirs went tits up a couple of months after it's warranty was over.
I don't like "coincidences" like that.
I have a Medion , German made thing and its never ****ed up... It got delivered to my house by mistake ,I signed for it and didn't even open the box for about 6 weeks it just sat in my hallway and I had no idea what it was.. Jammy bastard I am sometimes...
