My computer has been playing up lately and seems to take for ever to load Windows and some programs from cold. (I'm pretty good at keeping my computer clean and running smoothly,.)
I built the system myself so know it is software and access times related.

So I was going to do a fresh install from scratch this coming weekend.

Then I remembered Ebuyer had sent me an offer for a really cheap 64Gb SSD drive.
Went to their site and found the offer had expired, but, then saw this......

A 128Gb drive which will make the fresh install absolutely fly for just £49.98.

Stick something cheap on to take it to over £50 and get free delivery. :)

For those interested in an explanation a SSD drive will be like running your PC or Laptop off a large memory card, no moving parts. No waiting for a mechanical read head to spin up and find the right area of a normal HD and then slow read times when it does find the info.
Run your operating system off the SSD and use the mechanical drive to store all your data.
The read, write, times will be phenomenal and make my system like a brand new computer.


Whilst I was browsing for my cheapy to take it over 50 quid.
I saw these Homeplug network adaptors for using your internet all over the house by just plugging them into the mains.
£30 a good price for a pair of these.

They work through the ring main so cuts down on needed networking cabling.
A 2 metre length of Cat 5 cable and an electric wall socket and you have wired internet anywhere in your house.
I personally will be using it to plug in a spare wireless router up stairs to increase my wireless network reach.

One of my next door neighbours is a VJ, I'm going to suggest he gets a few for the laptops I have set up for him with PCDJ for his Karaoke and DJing.
Be able to stick them in external Sata portable enclosures and have real instant access to the tunes.

I will probably get another for my own laptop as the main drive.
As I don't actually store a lot of programs on it.
At this price it would be daft not to. :p

Hahaha

With just the laptop and mixer board to worry about he can come back later for his speakers and lights, if he has to do a runner.

He used to have the full set up previously and needed a transit and a couple of hours to set up.
Now he can turn up in a saloon car. :p

Ah he's a mobile jock, that's a we bit different, I have no objections to laptops for playback, I mean house DJ's who use them to 'mix'.

I have partaken of far to much fine malt to risk going onto a gambling site at this time.
(As I have learnt through previous bitter experience. :p)

Even forgot to have a couple of quid on daft scores for the England game.

A bloke I work with is in to all that, his claim to fame is doing a warm up session at a Tiesto event in the Netherlands

Quite a big deal that mate, I play house, click the link in my sig there's some mixes in there (if you like that kinda thing, of course..).

O DJ, promote, have a radio show here, it's my life, basically!
 
I would help anyone where I can but pc's are way out of my league.

Can skim your brake disks, grind crank bearings, make you owt you want on a lathe but not pc's, sorry.
 
Used to be bang into it until a couple of years ago, when I was constantly partying. Settling down a bit now so it's not something that I'm around enough to appreciate it the way I did.

Sounds like a canny number you've got there mind!

It's good yeah, but it's not the ****ing easy life some seem to think mate!

This is in no way a complaint mind, I adore it!

Cheers, I've put £100 of it on '2.5 goals plus' in the Canada v Cuba game, at 3.75.

Canada just scored second, so need 1 more, the player scored, went to grab ball from net, bitch slapped the keeper and got sent off.

Brilliant entertainment!

BOOOOM, there's the third, so I'm now nudging £500 for the evening!

May be heading back to England soon, all a bit pish here since the fire, English leaving in droves.
