I was there and quite high up so got a good overall view. He was injured in the first half but played with energy and speed going forward like a taller and faster version of Diakite. Not many tackles that I noticed. However, cannot see why he was there at the expense of Faurlin and should have been one of the two CBS both of whom were shocking. I thought that was his primary role? have I got that wrong? First time I've seen Nelson but Ferdinand was, and always has been, shocking. I don't know if Mbia can play full back but Clint Hill no longer can. Disastrous selection for that position.

For such a negative manager how can Hughes not have sorted this out? It was a priority.

Agree Yorkshire. Hughes seems to be making so many very strange decisions. I have hardly heard one commentator who hasn't pointed out Clint's lack of speed at left Back, and the oppoutunities it would give and gave both West ham and WBA. I still prefer Clint as CB, certainly over Ferdinand, and probably Nelsen, but Clint LB against any team with someone with a little speed on their right and we have a big problem. Why does not Hughes see this and yet everyone else find it blatantly obvious. We had injuries I know, but Traore did OK when he came on, and surely Bosingwa or Onouha would have beeen better options than Clint at LB.

Some good points raised. But i think you can have and should have ball players. Faurlin and granero compliment each other and along with Mbia/diakite we potentially have a great midfield. Wba did play the counter but that's because Steve Clarke is a coach and better tactician where as Hughes is a manager.
I believe we should go 4-3-3 as Hughes has tried all other avenues.
Caesar
Bosingwa Ferdinand nelson fabio

Granero Mbia/diakite Faurlin

Hoillet zamora tarrabt

Either Mbia or diakite.

I agree basically with this too, though personally I prefer Clint or M'bia at CB to Ferdinand, Traore to Favio, and Cisse to Zamora, but Hughes seems fixated on playing Park and SWP. My team for Everton would be:

-------------Caesar---------------

Bosingwa-- M'bia-- Hill (or Nelson)-- Traore

---------------Diakite----------------
--------Granero-------Faurlin------------

Hoillet-----------------------Adel -------
---------------Cisse------------------

This is the team to beat Everton ... it's arrogantly designed and is the strongest available ... end endth the lesson:

Cesar
Bosingwa Mbia Nelson Traore
Park Granero Diakite Faurlin Taarabt
Zamora.

I think at least we have captured the two fundamental approaches MH has to choose from with a fit squad. My vote goes with Oslo rather than DT if anyone's interested.

Oslo:
Caesar
Bosingwa M'bia Nelson Traore
Diakite
Granero Faurlin
Hoillet Taarabt Cisse

DT:
Cesar
Bosingwa Mbia Nelson Traore
Park Granero Diakite Faurlin Taarabt
Zamora

Either one are better than the ones Hughes has been coming up with,

I had exactly the same as you my friend except Hoilett instead of Park but yes supersub junior may be...Mbia is top, top quality, best player on the park (our part of the park at least) with adel against west ham

ps to those who say so, Faurlin and Granero are not similar!! just cos they're both good passers, Faurlin sits back and distributes...Granero is far more attacking and directly involved

Mbia is a bloody full on ox I agree give him that defenders job ... soon he will be settled then none shall pass ... really hard job for him Sat but he grew from a poor start

I think Mbia is just taking a bit of time to adjust to the premiership and a new team with a tougher opposition
Just like Diakite when he first arrived but they both have the ability to be important players for us

If we do play both of them i would prefer to see them adopting the German way of playing in the middle, if i remember rightly whoever plays along side Schweinsteiger, Ozil (?) they operate where if one goes forward the other sits a little deeper to pick up any loose ball that way they are never exposed to the counter attack, yet neither of them are told to only play one role. This would suit both as it would give them the confidence to venture forward knowing that the other is plugging the gap in the middle.

Apologies for the ramble.

A lot of people seem to have a hard-on for Cisse. He's been absolutely woeful when given a chance this season and, though good for 8 of 15 games last season, was suspended due to his own stupidity for 7. Zamora seems to have become one of the main scapegoats but he's been our player of the season so far (not a hugely coveted accolade) in my opinion.
