Some good points raised. But i think you can have and should have ball players. Faurlin and granero compliment each other and along with Mbia/diakite we potentially have a great midfield. Wba did play the counter but that's because Steve Clarke is a coach and better tactician where as Hughes is a manager.
I believe we should go 4-3-3 as Hughes has tried all other avenues.

Bosingwa Ferdinand nelson fabio

Granero Mbia/diakite Faurlin

Hoillet zamora tarrabt

Either Mbia or diakite.

Very Tough call at the moment but it also highlights the options that Hughes is trying. Playing the Flyer formation game isn't easy i give him that. Strange thing is that Bosingwa nearly got us a point and i am sure fans on here would be talking about how we kept on going and we had a rock solid spirit .

I think based on what i have seen so far: for the Everton match

Cesar
Bosingwa Mbia Nelson Traore
Park Granero Diakite Faurlin Taarabt
Zamora.

I have picked Park in front of SWP as I think Park has to stop Baines. Mbia/Nelson/Diakite must focus on Fellani. We stop the supply and i think we can win the midfield here.

I think Traore offers us the best option on the left and works hard to protect Adel. Thinking about it Granero and Faurlin get in for Everton game and we have to be more highly creative than Everton who work very hard always. We have to press much harder up the pitch and I would like to see Diakite step out regularly to do this with defensive midfield duties being shared by him and Faurlin.
Park if he fades .. SWP no question ... Adel can't unlock then Hoilett tries

Agree with you Dave re traore. I assume we only started with Jill as traore coming back from injury but that decision cost us those 2 west brom goals. Should have started traore and brought hill on if needed.

However that's all easy to say with hindsight

Good honest answer Wubba. No idea why Traore was out maybe discipline who knows but he offers us a great outlet IMO and never understood the criticism ... now for Flyer etc this boy can cross the ball. I think we are blessed to have him. I also see him as a strong left midfielder if Fabio gets back into the team . About time we took stock of our squad again fantastic options ... its coming i am sure

i feel like i must be watching different games from some of you as faurlin and grenero shouldnt be in the same team. far to similar, no pace and cost us on the break. we should be playing 4-4-2 at home or if not then a 4-4-1-1

bob, if we play them 2 week in and week out we will go down. diakite offers so much more than faurlin for me. so bob, we didnt get caught out against west ham every time they broke?? against spurs? reading at home in cup?? hughes can see it thats why faurlin was dropped. we need more pace in the middle, end of. a midfield 4 of hoilett- grenero- diakite- mbia -taraabt for me, only my opinion tho bob a you seem to disagree with whats obvious!!!

stormed straight past Hughes and the bench and down the tunnel when he was taken off.
just having a strop or something more?

Maybe he was storming out like the Mittals it's becoming all the rage

You just get up and walk straight out

I can't stand it anymore it's so liberating ... Shopping in Tescos don't wait for it to hurt your head just do it

That's it just walk out keep on walking like Forrest Gump

I've been advocating that formation and players (when fit) for some time Bob. 4-3-3 when we have the ball, which becomes 4-5-1 when we lose it. M'Bia or Diakite holding with Granero and Faurlin each side.
Maybe 4-2-3-1 away from home.

That makes a lot of sense Dave. I agree with Park to keep tabs on Baines. Trouble is, Park has been struggling to keep tabs on anyone!! So far off the pace imo. May be better on the right mind you.
Your formation is the same as Bob's. 4-5-1 when we lose the ball and 4-3-3 when we have it.

A couple of things you're not getting mate.
Firstly, your named midfield 4 has 5 players in it and secondly, the reason Granero and Faurlin got caught so square is because Hughes played your favoured 4-4-2 all wrong. You can't play 4-4-2 with a flat 4 across the middle as was so obvious against West Ham. Once Diakite was brought on to sit as the holding player it all improved greatly. You're right that, in a 4-4-2 we can't play Granero and Faurlin together. They need someone sitting in front of the back 4 so that they can play.

i meant to say that taraabt would have a free role behind zamora mate, thanks for pointing out my mistake. although mbia could play at the back and adel on the left. the one thing im sure of is we need a togetherness that was shown in the last few games of last season, and a settled back 4.also playing from the first whistle would be a bonus, early goals are killing us!!!!

Fair enough. Can't argue with much of that tbh.

I saw a bit by Pat Nevin on MOTD 2 about Fellaini's use of his chest.

I think M'Bia's aerial strength might prevent some of their outlet balls if he dropped in front.

Faurlin has looked a bit tired but him and Granero have been at the heart of our best spells of passing and ball retention. Granero is happier to drift forward which makes him a different player to Ale.

Taarabt on the left and Park on the right. Agree with the reasons for playing JSP there listed above and have noted his inability to play balls in on his left.

Zamora up top.

Defence depends on availability but Nelsen and Bosingwa should be there (preferably with Traore at LB).

Oh and Green in goal (only joking).

Yep is that with diakite on or off the pitch? You obviously overlooked the fact i had either diakite/Mbia in the team!

Exactly this. Think most of us on here are reading off the same page.

On Mbia, DT's right he sat a little too deep but you don't know what instructions he was given MH, also you need to remember the PL is a different Kettle of fish and it will take him couple of games to get the pace, remember Sambas first game ! (pretty much like his last :))

Best someone forward this then to MH then maybe we will start picking up points

MH doesn't have to read these forums just simply re-watch the games a couple of times on tape, my better half could spot the mistakes and shes a Southampton supporter. MH simply needs to stop making the same mistake week after week.
