I'm not sure how to answer this MD. This has very quickly been dragged into whitabootery on a grand and bizarre scale.
Firstly, I'd go back to your early assertion about IRA activity in Glasgow in the 20s.
Other than the "breaking of the van" I don't know of any - there well could be loads but the ultimate "whitaboot" to that is "are you telling me that Scots weren't involved in atrocity after atrocity in Ireland?" but I'm not even going down that route.
Are you excusing singing a song about Blackshirts by suggesting that there were IRA incidents in Glasgow in the 20s?
...and Do you believe that all participants in conflict are equal and do you believe that this would be a valid excuse for a German to sing about the 40s Wehrmacht (for example)?
I've now indulged (a wee bit) in the whitabootery <shame>
You took my first post far too seriously Bib and I wasn't gonnae sit here and have someone tell me one group of fannies is worse than the other.
I know fine well the Billy Boys is in reference to Fullerton and his ilk, I'm not denying that. What I am saying though is there is absolutely no difference in terms of shameful and irresponsible behaviour between most groups of that time especially the Billy Boys and the Conks.
I don't know german culture or what they sing as I don't speak german Bib. What I would say though is it wouldn't surprise me if neo-nazi groups based in germany did sing about the Wehrmacht, in fact I'm fairly sure there are plenty of songs about the SS so ones about the general army wouldn't surprise me in the least.
What I am saying is that to say one group was any worse than the other is just a complete and utter waste of time reserved for the likes of Rebel and BH.
