I think Schuey may well be out of a drive now and it doesnt sound like its totally by choice - shame really and I think he should have been able to announce his own retirement prior to their being no seats left.

Oct.1 (GMM/Inautonews.com) Michael Schumacher’s manager has answered speculation about the seven time world champion’s future by saying “Anything is possible”.
Replaced at Mercedes by Lewis Hamilton for 2013, 43-year-old Schumacher is now seriously linked with a switch to Sauber.
Schumacher’s current manager is Sabine Kehm, who has been spotted recently in conversation with the Swiss team’s chiefs Peter Sauber and Monisha Kaltenborn.
But Schumacher’s well-known former manager, Willi Weber, said that if he was still in charge, “I would get in a car immediately and go and talk to Luca (di Montezemolo) at Maranello.”
Insiders, however, think a return to Ferrari for Schumacher is not credible, and even Kaltenborn has doubts about the Hinwil link, even though Sauber needs to replace the McLaren-bound Sergio Perez.
“Of course, these are lovely thoughts, and of course we have to think about getting a seven time world champion when there’s one on the market,” she told Bild newspaper.
“But Michael has only ever been with large manufacturer teams that you really cannot compare to us.”
Manager Kehm insisted: “Michael is not short of opportunities. It’s just that at the moment it is far too early to talk about anything specific.”
Niki Lauda was an architect of Schumacher’s succession by Lewis Hamilton, because while he thinks the great German is still good enough for F1, “I doubt he can always be competing against Vettel, Alonso and Hamilton anymore”, he told FAZ newspaper.
Kaltenborn said the issue of Perez’s successor is not likely to be settled before Suzuka.
She wished Perez well for his big McLaren move, but did express some frustration.
“We have to be an attractive platform for the drivers,” said Sauber chief executive Kaltenborn. “It’s the only way to stop us developing drivers and then losing them to the competition.
“We have made the first step this season,” she explained, referring to the Swiss team’s stellar 2012.

Seems to indicate that it's a no-go but, of course, she will want to be bringing his price right down so she would say that.

It sure as hell is, Schumacher has taken time to get fit again, and now he is back up to pace, with mistakes here and there, he won't want it to go to waste, or be a lapdog for Lewis.
Go for it Michael.

And to the people that say his reputation is dented, wait until someone wins 92 races 8 WDC's and 157 podiums and 70 poles. Then say that.

Surely that's the reputation he's just spent three years battering with a sledgehammer?

8 WDCs?

Read slowly and carefully.

On another note, Kobayashi and Schumacher as teammates would be interesting. No news on Alguersari yet.. maybe a Ferrari seat?
Only Massa/Di-Resta/Hulk have been mentioned.

I would seriously hate Schumacher to Sauber. My favourite team and one of my least favourite drivers :(
He needs to retire, he's done nothing but prove the doubters right since 2010.

Andrew Benson says there are only three drivers in the running, the same three that La Gazzetta mentioned a couple of days ago:

Andrew Benson said:
Ferrari have narrowed their choice for Fernando Alonso's team-mate next year down to three drivers.

The team's intention is to retain current driver Felipe Massa, but Force India drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta are options.

Massa has reignited his chances of keeping the seat with some strong performances in recent races.

But the team want to wait until at least mid October after the Korean Grand Prix before deciding.

Both German Hulkenberg and Scot di Resta have produced impressive performances this season.

In mid-summer, Ferrari were planning to drop Massa, who has been racing for the Scuderia since 2006.

But the Brazilian has put himself back in the picture with a series of strong drives since the end of F1's summer break, as well as a general upturn in his performances after a poor start to the season.

In the last month, Massa has finished fifth in Belgium, fourth in Italy and produced a strong comeback drive in Singapore to finish eighth after a first-lap puncture put him to the back of the field.

He is currently eighth in the overall driver standings.

BBC Sport understands that Ferrari team members want to keep Massa - as does Alonso, who made his views clear with a comment at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Alonso said: "In my opinion we need to have a driver that respect Ferrari and the tradition of this team and that we work for the team and the red cars. This is the first priority.

"And second I have been working with Felipe three years now and [we have] a good relationship. If the team decide to change Felipe, whoever [comes in] has to be better than Felipe.

"And of the names that have been written I don't know if they have been written with the head or the heart. I don't know if you [can] compare what Felipe did in F1 with what they did…"

That last remark is a reference to the fact that Massa has won 11 grands prix and narrowly missed out on the world title in 2008, whereas none of the drivers who have been linked with replacing him have yet won a race.

But Ferrari's bosses want to wait a little longer before confirming Massa to be sure he can hold on to his current form.

Meanwhile, the picture is complicated by a source with good knowledge of the driver market saying that a deal for Hulkenberg to join Ferrari next year is already done.

What if he went there, and they started winning and consistently reaching the podium next year. What then?
Would he start proving you wrong?

I would love to see this! I'm hoping for a lot of driver-team changes anyway, make things more interesting. As for Schumi to Sauber, I'd rather see a younger driver move up; sorry, Manny.

Jenson gets 5-place penalty for Japan.

I smell a cancellation of a certain Japanese GP with regard to these typhoons!

McLaren bringing it up this early must mean they're hoping this GP gets delayed or something making the penalty void in the end.
