I don't believe the grief Holt is getting, he made the goal for Tettey, layed on the chance for Jackson, and was generally his normal self. He is not getting the service he needs to score even though he is trying to manufacture chances, FFS it WILL happen!!!!!
I was well impressed with Butterfield, he's quick and likes to get forward, and isn't afraid to shoot, I think he could easily fit straight into the first team.
Tettey gradually got more and more into the game as time went on, but still looks a bit short of match fitness. Was good to see him at last, he will be great for us!
Agree with the comments about Ward, he didn't put a foot wrong all evening.
Great to see Elliot Bennet back, he had a good game.
Hoops made a BIG difference when he came on, he MUST start on saturday, he also sparks well with Holt!
All in all not a brilliant game but better than the Scunthorpe debacle, a win and a clean sheet is OK at this stage!

PS: Sorry to disobey your instruction Superman, I did go to the game!!!

Hoolahan/Holt, a spritely Jackson maybe, tettey on form. Saturday's game will be anything but dull.

I can't wait, hope Hughton pulls a "oh, and bassongs fine as well"

Bassong's injury was a bit of a blow, he has started brilliantly for us since signing. In all fairness, so have all out signings, think some of the Turner doubters is a bit harsh. Thought he played well against Newcastle other than his mistake. Suppose we havn't really seen Whittaker properly. But just shows what a scout Ewan Chester is.

Just watched the highlights on the iplayer and we certainly didn't lack good chances from what I saw Holt and Jackson had some good efforts on goal. Even Tierney got an effort on goal.

One thing that needs improving IMO is the quality of the crossing. There have been too many loopy crosses, in many cases overhit as well. Holty and Morison thrive on driven crosses, not hanging ones. There have on occasion been some great balls in, from Garrido and Snodgrass in particular, but overall the crossing has disappointed me. Having Elliott Bennett back should improve that aspect of our play. Re. shooting from distance, Simeon Jackson has been TOO keen to let fly, on a number of occasions, when he would have done better to play someone else in. We have several who are good at it, but Simeon is not one of them! Butterfield really impressed me; two footed, comfortable in possession, good shot on him. A real plus. And Tettey looked really promising. As others have said, fine tuning is all that we need, and a bit of luck. We are showing a maturity we lacked last season, part of which is being more defensively aware throughout the team. Being gung-ho is not the answer, just a slight increase in tempo when in possession.

Last night's selection included several players (other than Butterfield, Tettey and E. Bennett) who could have advanced their cause. Tierney and R. Bennett were OK but didn't exactly make a statement; Fox played well; but Chris Martin did his chances no good at all IMO. With Kane probably out for a bit Martin had the opportunity to stake his claim but did the exact opposite. <ok>

I've seen some comments about Doncaster and I disagree, they are not a bad team, at least they played the ball on the ground and made some chances.
Shame about the 300 or so fans they brought, some of the stuff they were singing was disgraceful, and a lot of it aimed at Delia!
I have complained to the club about it, they were after all advertising it as a family occasion.
As I queued at the turnstile a school party of around 8/9 year olds were going in, they were sitting not far from me, and shouldn't have been allowed to have been within hearing distance of that foul mouthed chanting. The police and stewards did nothing either!!!
I wasn't the first to complain apparently.

Agree. Several of the Donny side last night have embarrassed us in earlier years, Hulme and Blake in particular; good players in their day and you could see the nous was still there if not the legs. Good job the chance at the end didn't fall to one of them or we'd have been into extra time. That said. the guy who fluffed it scored twice in Donny's 3:2 win over Hull in the last round ......

No different to the foul mouthed Londoners from West Ham such disgusting behaviour seems to be getting worse how the police just sit there and do not say a word if you did it in the street you would be nicked I have young lads there to and it is just not required arrest the scum a few chants one can take but it seems the police can't be bothered

First half was great entertainment, the second however was just about as bad as it can get.

Tettey is short of match practice, he was well of the pace reading Doncasters moves. He's nice and mobile though, looks agile, put in the miles and we don't have anyone like that at the club. He also looked pretty comfortable on the ball and was our main attacking threat when he joined in. I like him.

As for Butterfield, he again looks short on games but I certainly think he looks promising.

We were way to anxious to score goals, crossing at the first opportunity to often, not working to the byline enough, giving the ball away trying to force things. The passing of Holt and Jackson was well off where it should be.

The lack of chemistry and familiarity was quite evident. Although we didn't play well, I wouldn't say any individual was bad, just a bit of a poor team performance due to plenty of new faces.

I thought it was a game of 2 halves. My mate and I quite enjoyed the first half but the second was poor. So glad Donny missed a sitter with a few minutes to go because I could not have faced more of what was being served up,but a win is a win.

    Bunn- looked solid
Tierney - looked strange, less thuggish and smaller but a decent game
Ward - very good game and considering his situation, very professional attitude
R.Bennet - decent but can see why he is not first choice at the moment
E.Bennett - excellent game and I would start him in front of Russell Martin on Saturday
Butter field - looked quite good. Was impressed considering his lay off
    Fox- good,solid game
Tetty- (tea bag!) very Impressed. Up and down the pitch and keen to have a go
C.Martin - sorry but he was awful last night
Kane - reminds me of Paul Dalglish enough said
Holt- I thought was good first half and faded second. Can understand his frustration at poor passing/crossing. Was unlucky not to score
Wes- Ok and would start him on Saturday instead of Howson.
Jackson - always busy but his final choices can let him down.

The one aspect I do think is a concern is Hughton's fixation on 4 4 2. I rate Hughton's and hope he does well but to switch it a bit may help. Overall yes I have had better entertainment but some positives for me but still a concern in the final third.

    Team for Saturday
    Ruddy
R.Martin, Barny, Turner (if no Bassong), Garrido
    Johnson (then bring Teabag on)
Snodgrass ( then bring on Pilkington/butter field) Wes, E.Bennett (will inject pace)
    Holt, Jackson

Surely the strangest thing at the game was that Tierney had hair. Whats up with that?!

It made him look 'soft'. I preferred the 'nutter' look.
