Sad loss of one of the game's true characters, and City legend.

Was manager during my most fervent period of following City home and away.

RIP John, and thanks.

I maintain to this day that it was Bondy that put this club on the map. He brought in some amazing players, Martin Peters, Ted MacDougall, Phil Boyer, Colin Suggett, Jimmy Neighbour, Mick McGuire, Tony Powell to name but a few.
He also oversaw the re-building of the River End stand the very start of the stadium re-development. His style of football was terrific, especially after the dour but effective style of Ron Saunders.

He also says he regretted leaving City in his later years

These were my teenage years and his teams hold so many happy memories, especially as nearly all were in the top flight.

100% agreed. He started it and Ken Brown followed on and took us to the next step...

See my above remark - I think he started the trend of leaving NCFC and not achieving to the same level (managers and players)

I think I may have mentioned this before on here but one of Bondy's greatest quotes which still makes me smile today, was when he was interviewed by Gerry Harrison on Anglia TV's 'Match Of The Week'

Gerry Harrison: "Well John, that was a great performance, what are your thoughts?" (or words to that effect)

John Bond: "Frankly Gerry, we were so good today it frightened me"

<laugh>

He was the manager when I was born so I'm afraid I don't have any memories of his time myself, but I am well aware of his legend at the club and my old man certainly used to speak very highly of him. I can only echo the sentiments of others on this thread, RIP JB, the game has lost another of its 'good old boys'. Sad news indeed.

<cheers>

Not old enough to remember him but from what I've heard of him he was great for Norwich. Also heard that tributes are being prepared for tonight's game.

Goodbye Mr. Bond. <rose>

Would you go with a round of applause or a minute's silence ? It's always a difficult one. On the one hand a round of applause is a more rousing tribute, on the other a minute's silence shows more respect IMO <ok>
