With our new star goalkeeper helping us get our first clean sheet this season, would you want to see him start on Sunday against QPR?

Not just the clean sheet but I felt that Lioris was more in command of our goalkeepers box, covering much more ground,possibly due to his youth?

Nothing against Brad who has been outstanding for us this term.

just felt that Lioris brought another dimension to our game tonight, one that I feel can help us establish our new way of playing more,due to his agility and quicker thinking.
 
I'd stick with Friedel for now.
Lloris can have another game in less than a week and then another the following Thursday.
Unless there's a drastic drop in form from our current 1st choice, then I think the new man would be better suited by a bedding in period.
 
I didn't think he looked like he needed bedding in much PNP.

Managers like Mourinhio and even Mancini don't piss about in order to raise the level of performance in the player who has just been dropped.

It is the inevitable that Lioris will become number1 so why not after a good performance.

Like I say nothing against Brad who has been solid and im more than happy to have as number 1. I just felt that Lioris was everywhere in his box as oppose to Brad who sticks on the line more often than not.

Lazio are a good team and Lioris has played against better opposition.
 
You should stick with Friedel for the rest of this season at least. Pick who's in form- not who the France coach wants you to play in goal!

Leave the media aside- you have a top, top quality keeper in Brad Friedel- don't let his last year or so go to waste <ok>
 
avb can't drop freidal, due to the comments he made, as otherwise he is sending mixed messages out to the squad so until brad screws up then I expect he will stay as number 1.

Not that I agree, as I would rather Lloris was starting games, as he isn't a young kid, i'm sure he is man enough to deal with any dodgy games he has without wrecking his career.
 
Spurs could have played Defoe in goal, it would have make no difference. They came to spoil the game and were not too interested in scoring goals.
 
Brad is in form so should keep his place...anything else is stupid...whats the point in playing well but being dropped?
 
I'm more than happy with Brad as I stated in my op...I just saw different positive aspects to Lioris's game...ones that I think are of more benefit to the team.

However I understand that it is not good for morale to drop Brad who has been outstanding for us.
 
Lloris did pretty well and certainly he looked strong coming off the line. But it wasn't his most difficult night and I can recall one occasion when he committed himself to chase a ball in the box that he was never going to reach and it was lobbed back into the box - fortunately with no other Lazio player around.
For me, Brad should retain his place this weekend.

Croydon,. three chances throughout the 90mins then, sounds like spoiling tactics to me. Spurs have at least two key players missing in defence and somehow fielded a side that resticted that bunch of foulers to three shots. That suggest to me that they were not interested in any other score line apart from 0-0

That doesn't say spoiling tactics like, say, Chelsea's "heroics" in the CL last season - we controlled the midfield through Sandro and Dembele, so the likes of Hernanes couldn't get into the game nor could they get the ball forward.

Their lack of shots had nothing to do with their tactics, and everything to do with ours.

You'll probably be suggesting that the current defensive options open to Spurs, are the best in Europe.
I'd like to think so too, but they are clearly not. Lazio were poor in every department tonight except for cheating.

Did you read what I posted? We removed their midfield from the game, so they had to use their backup plan - the style of play that serves Chelsea so well in Europe, which most Italian teams haven't used since the late 70s (but that doesn't stop pundits banging on about catenaccio, regardless of what's unfolding before them on the pitch)

Sandro has proven he can be a one-man barrier in midfield for us in the past, notably in the Milan games a couple of seasons ago, and now he has Dembele helping it out. In other words, it has nothing to do with our defensive options, for the simple reason our defensive options had the night off!

We got at their defence, Lazio rarely got at ours. By that definition, who used the spoiling tactics?

The crowd really got behind him today and he responded in kind. In a way it's a shame that he didn't get any real opportunities to show his ability but that's the way it is and he'll have plenty of chances to prove himself this season, even if Brad stays in form. One thing that to me highlighted why he shouldn't right start away unless Friedel is injured, is hearing him shout "hey" trying to get Caulker's attention. I'm sure he knows the names but it's probably not something that comes quickly to you when you're in the middle of a match, on the plus side I also heard him shouting at the defence to "push out" a couple of timess so we know his English is good :D

Lloris all the way, different level to Brad

it'll be a scandal if Brad starts against QPR

Lloris is a world class keeper and I'm just waiting for OS to come on to call me naive again :smile:
 
Lloris will be number one sooner rather than later in my opinion but Brad has done a good job so it's not gonna be easy for AvB to drop him.
 
As you might know Croydon, Dembele is a great creative midfielder, he played that role very well tonight against weak defensive opposition, he simply didn't have much defending to do.

Sandro is a more defensive player, but in this game he too was not stretched defensively. So had no need to engineer much of a 'one man barrier'.

Lazio pre-recquiste was to stop Spurs playing, but not only to stop Spurs playing Croydon., they game plan was to stop Spurs by any means., fouling and cheating included. Can I remind you that they commited 21 official fouls and another 21 unpunished by a tired referee IMO.

We have all seen spoiling tactics before Croydon, and what accured in this game was not complicated or elaborate spoiling,
yet I'm frankly dismayed to learn that you have not characterized this as a feature of the game in question.

Chelsea's approach to European games is a far cry from Lazio's proformance tonight in this respect:
Chelsea put together a proper system of defence they effectively parked the bus in Europe, Croydon., but used a entirely different formation and style of play to most of the Italian teams of the 70s. What Chelsea have done lately should not be refered to in the same light as tonights accomplishment by a Lazio side., who behaved little better then a bunch of thugs, and had NO back-up plan whatsoever.

A no score, away draw obviously suited them much more them it suited Spurs. They got their result not because of our midfield dominance Croydon, but despite of it. Do you understand now.
 
For me, you play the best players you have available to you in every position. Question is if we buy a top class striker (please god) will we have to wait until Defoe has a dip in form before playing him? No of course not. Lloris is a class act, sorry Brad.
