Berba did alright at Utd. He won 2 (???) titles and probably a cup or something. He was top premier league scorer one year and got a few in the other years too. He pretty much had a 1 in 2 goalscoring record.
Keane on the other hand....

If you just look at stats ok, but he became a bit part player and spent a lot of time on the bench the proof of which is he is now at Fulham which with all due respect is a drop from being a potential legend at Spurs.

I was clearly speaking hypothetically though mate. My point stands, the length of the contract no doubt played a significant part in the negotiation process with Madrid. I can see why it would rile fans to hear a player wanting out so soon after signing a long term contract, but from a business perspective it made perfect sense for the club and player.

I don't disagree with your last point really, had Mod and his agent put clear and concise clauses regarding release, none of this episode...for the 2nd year running, ruining pre-season prep would have happened. To start whining himself, roping other managers (Stimac) in to comment, who was given only Mod's side of things, is about as unprofessional as it gets. All of it self inflicted by his crap agent.

Exactly, Notso. Spot on.

Look at Dembele. £15m release clause in his contract, we paid it and there's no messing about, no media fallout and no unprofessional bullshit.

We acted with morals though. Dembele's release clause didn't stop United bidding less than £5mill for him.

Because Man Utd are ****s. <ok>
Ferguson was probably hoping that the player would kick off and try to force a move, especially as he only had a year left on his contract, IIRC.

OK he's a nasty little rat faced bastard, happy now?

I wish him well in his new job. <ok>

****s with no money - there were stories circulating six months ago that they were willing to exploit Everton's financial troubles with a bid of £5m for Leighton Baines.

MUPLC's actions show they don't quite seem to know their current status - they link themselves to rivals' players just like they did when they were the financial powerhouse of the Premier League, yet it's with bids that will get rejected out of hand.

Then again, these things will happen when a club spends £7.7m to float on the NYSE, and doing so pays off £6m of their debt...

"No reason for any Spurs fan to be upset with Modric for wanting to go to a club like Real Madrid."

Don't think he really had much choice.
Levy made it obvious that he was not going to a PL rival, so with no Sugga Daddy
FC in the bidding, Madrid was the only destination.

Will be sad for the man if his entire Madrid career is as a bench-warmer.
But there you go.

"No reason for any Spurs fan to be upset with Modric for wanting to go to a club like Real Madrid" or Chelsea or any other club that offered him more money and that he clearly had already talked to...

Even for Darth Levy, that would be dark dark dealings indeed. :)

But :

1. Half his Madrid wages is what ??
2. He would never agree (such a massive loss of face) .

Knowing him and his crap agent, he'll be oblivious to the fact Spain are increasing their income tax and VAT. :D

His annual wages (according to ESPN, so this may be debatable) are €4.5m/£3.6m, which would mean he's on £69k per week. Half of that is £38.5k per week - which is less than he was on for us!

If anyone loses face in that arrangement, it's going to be Modric - his dream move didn't turn out as planned and he has to go back and face the music from Spurs management and fans.

Blah blah is that he was on 50K at the end.
And that Madrid have at least doubled that.

TBH if the loan punishment could have been done to anyone, would have loved it to
have been Berbatoss last season.

Surely he's on more than that? We were willing to give him £100k pw at one point. What a **** agent he has if that is his deal

I know what your meaning there SL...now I'm going to shoot you! <laugh> no, some of the things he does are very similar. Zidane was more than happy to still receive the ball with one or two opponents around him, such was his skill at shielding the ball is something i noted, such a simple thing taught at schoolboy level, unbelievable balance for a big guy and great strength at holding players away, very rarely did anyone take the thing off him. Also just the simplest slight change of direction, was enough to just wrongfoot a player to go past them. <ok>
