He's not correct at all, he's way off beam. Lloris as a player doesn't have to adopt any 'pragmatic approach', he's one of the top-rated keepers in the world, he should be No.1 from the start. The whole situation is ridiculous

Well said SOS - BTW I got called 'naive' by Spurcat for calling Lloris world class.

his is the transfer coup of the summer for us, and probably, given his age, our most notable signing since Klinsmann, yet he's treated with disrespect. He must have been mad signing for us, and I bet he regrets it already.

Was Klinsmann told he'd have to bide his time, was Berbatov, was Modric, was VDV. Lloris is rated more highly than any of the last 3.

  3. I also don't understand where this comment about negativity is coming from at all. Everyone appears to be delighted that we have signed up a world class keeper.
Apparently however, if you don't think he should immediately replace the incumbent then you are being negative.....

G10 - the parallels you have drawn with other players (Klinsman etc) doesn't really apply as they were replacing significantly inferior and in some cases underperforming alternatives. This is not the case with Friedel & Lloris.

I understand entirely where he negativity is coming from, it's coming from our manager to start with, some/many of our fans, the media, to start with

Friedel is clearly inferior to Lloris so why should he have to 'bide his time'?

And I'm a big, big fan of Brad the player and person BTW, but he's not at Lloris' level.

It's disrespectful to such a highly-rated player and the captain of France to be seen as the No.2..

I can see that Reading might be a game too soon, but I expect him to be No.1 after that and playing in the Prem v QPR

Yes, I did call your assessment of Lloris "naive" and I stand by that comment. I can assure you that a keeper who has failed to exert a physical presence in the area, despite being teh ideal height and build for a goalkeeper, is not 'world class'. Lloris has not yet shown enough consistency in that area of his game in my opinion.

Yep OS, and I took it from you as I know you know your onion bags when it comes to keeping.

But I'm sure you'll agree that Lloris more highly rated in world football than Brad, and that he is the most highly-rated player we have signed this summer.

Incidentally, last night Lloris looked to have far more control of his area than Brad does, and had one testing cross to deal with, which he handled brilliantly. Obviously, this area of his game will come under scrutiny in England, and we'll have to see how he deals with it.

Brad deals with it by not coming for most crosses and completely failing to dominate the area. That's his choice as a highly-respected and experienced keeper. I expect Lloris to improve on that and indeed most aspects of goalkeeping compared to Brad, who I rate highly as a keeper and very highly as a person. But Hugo Lloris he is not.

Hi Spurf, it's just the general idea that people believe it's a hard decision as to whether Lloris or Brad should be number one, coupled with AVB's comments, people on Twitter plus BAE's supposed comments (haven't actually seen them but I've seen people speculate on here about what was said) has given me the perception that people, admittedly not just on not606 are being way too negative about the signing of one of the worlds best goal keepers.

Lloris is a better keeper than Friedel, the idea that he'd have trouble taking the No1 position over Brad is ludacrous in my opinion, as good as Brad is - and believe me, I'm a huge fan of his - he's not on the same level as Hugo. The position should be Lloris' to lose, not to win. I can only presume that some fans haven't seen Lloris play and this is why the uncertainty of who should/ shouldn't be number 1 is being raised.

When we play Reading I'd expect Brad to start as Lloris would only have had 3 days training with us, once he has a full week under his belt I'll be so surprised and slightly disappointed if he's not starting against QPR.

I would understand GH and SOS if this was 2 months since we signed Lioris....but I just checked and we only signed him last week and since have only played 1 match for which Lioris was ineligible anyway.

So all this must be once again to think and say the opposite to AVB thus joining te media bandwagon....so like I decided to ignore the AVB out and reasons behind it...I will do the same with this situation.

Quite simply put it's obvious that Lioris will get his chance.

It is a shame that this hatred for all things AVB have become so petty and obvious.

Everyone has not been delighted. I won't bring up names or quote the comments (purely because I can't be ars*d to go back and find them) but I've seen posts in which people have said along the lines of Lloris is either inferior to Brad or a waste of money.

If it's not being negative by stating Lloris shouldn't replace Brad within a short matter of time then I don't know how it can be explained as. It's like starting Townsend over Bale, Livermore over Parker or Naughton over Walker... It's a negative idea to not want the better player starting over another. Lloris is better than Brad, even if it is marginally, he's still better... Thus for me, should be number 1.

This is a bad misreading of the situation and my views SL. IMHO of course.

    Lloris' Spurs career thus far:
    * Signed for the club on Transfer Deadline Day
    * Ineligible for the Norwich game
    * Flew back to Lyon to say goodbye to his former teammates
    * Flew out to join the France squad for the World Cup qualifiers

Has he even trained with the squad yet? If not, the only time he's been at Spurs Lodge was for his unveiling!

Exactly SOS, we've had stuff like 'the captain of France should bide his time', indeed 'just because he's captain of France what's that matter', we've also had 'if he don't like it he can go back to France (I bet he wishes he never left)

There's been a ridiculous amount of negativity to someone who is probably the highest-rated player we have on our books, maybe along with Bale, and probably our highest-rated signing since Klinsmann.

My "hatred" for AVB has nothing to do with my opinion of the Lloris and Brad situation.

I know Lloris was ineligible for the NCFC game and I've even stated I think Brad should start against Reading as Hugo will only have had 3 days with us, what I'm getting at is the idea that Hugo may not be number by say the QPR game and that some do truly believe Brad is better. I'm a huge fan of Brad, always have been even before his Spurs career but the fact is, when a player comes into the team who is of a higher calibre than a current first teamer, then he should take the position. It's then up to them to keep it. Hugo is > Brad.

Regardless of which side any fan is taking, no one can deny this doesn't look that welcoming for Lloris, would it have been so difficult for avb to say

"with the arrival of Lloris we now have another top class keeper and all the keepers understand there is going to be a fight on for the no 1 jersey, but of course we're delighted to have signed Lloris"

A simple, positive comment that doesn't send out any messages, or create a media frenzy.

Also, i still don't believe AVB was that keen on Lloris, maybe he was, but this seems a Levy signing.

some, if not all of those comments are possibly mine and i can categorically tell you they aren't meant to be negative. So if that is aimed at me then kindly stop.
Again, if it was directed at me then re-read my entire comments and don't just take the odd few words that suit your argument. What are you, the daily mail?
I can't be arsed with this thread any more, its just repetitive and increasingly bigoted. I welcome Lloris, but i don't think ANYONE should waltz into the team before they've even trained with the squad. Anyone that thinks that is negative is a moron.

Exactly Boss, it's been a massive OG for AVB again, and he's increasingly looking out of his depth AGAIN

We were linked to Lloris late last season, so that's pretty much a gimme.

Although that does beg one question: We needed a long-term goalkeeper, so did Villas-Boas have one in mind? If not, he doesn't have grounds for complaint about Lloris coming in (if he does, that is)

I feel AVB isn't happy as he missed out on his main target of Moutinho and I do wonder if AVB was that keen on Lloris, it was like he was making a statement with the comment about Brad that we didn't need Lloris.

Or, he could have been for the signing - I haven't seen any positive comments yet from AVB, so all we can do is wonder/speculate and go with the comments that are actually said.

He did speak highly of Dembele and Dempsey after they were signed, which does imply that he identified them as players he wanted. On the other hand, Vertonghen and Lloris (as was Sandro a couple of years ago) were long-term targets, which is pretty much a euphamism for Levy identifying them.

So, in Levy we have a chairmain/dof.

Is that healthy? doesn't strike me as being a positive (if it creates problems within the squad), as who is advising Levy on these players? for example who advised Levy on Sig and Verts?....his son? :emoticon-0116-evilg
