I honestly dont know how people can say no to Del Piero. If the terms are right, amazing signing. Imagine what our youngsters would learn off of someone like that. And dont tell me he is too old. May have had a different outcome yesterday bringing on an "old head" who could manipulate the ball, Man Utd brought on a similar player, wimilar age.... what was his name... oh yeah paul scholes !

Del Piero could be amazing for us, JW Prowse education would be even better !

COYR

Spot on saintern!

How much can he offer us from a playing perspective? Honestly I'd say not that much. But from experience to youngsters, he'd do incredibly, and how any honest football fan could turn down the chance to see someone like Del Piero at their club in whatever capacity is beyond me.

He did okay for Juve's title winning team last year, he'd probably be cover for every attacking position and the position at the tip of the midfield 3, could easily play a Paul Scholes-esque role.

Yeah, okay, he wasn't good for them. It's different to Paul Scholes, who is still incredibly good (seriously, it was ridiculous yesterday seeing how amazing he is) but of course I'd still have Del Piero.

He's going to Sydney. Frankly, I don't think he'd be interested in being a coach at Southampton when he could do pretty much anything else he wanted to. Including continue playing somewhere he will be a star and where the weather is nicer.

For me it's where would he play ?!
How much would he be on ?
Pay per game is ok I suppose or a large win bonus , but a 2/3 contact on a large sum ? No way .

He would play exactly like scholes yesterday. Scholes doesn't have any pace and in his late 30s but still plays effectively for one of the best teams in the world. He came on and immediately changed the game. Would you turn scholes down on a free?? They are pretty similar players.

I'd take him in a heartbeat for reasonable wages.

Pretty confident it won't happen, but I would be thrilled if a player of this magnitude came to the club.

For older fans who can remember Alan Ball, Frank Worthington and Jimmy Case in Southampton sides of the past. They'll know just how effective a player can be without the infamous pace or headless chicken work rate.
Scholes is still sensational and Giggs can play in a more advanced role.

Del Piero would bring experience not just to the players but to NA and coaching staff, who won't have the same level of knowledge of playing at the top of the game for nearly 20 years.

The Daily Echo (I know) said about £800,000 a year so £15,000 a week. I think the issue is that people can't see beyond the pitch. Do we need a player in his position right now? Probably not but that doesn't mean he wouldn't bring anything to the table - we are talking about one of the most talented, decorated footballers of our generation here, what he could bring to the training ground, the buzz it would create around the club (Spurs fan mentioned when Davids signed for them as an example), a mentor for the younger players, potential increased revenue through increased exposure to the global market (isn't he still the face of Adidas?) and if he did come on at 65 minutes for dozen games this season then his free-kicks could lead to goals.

I honestly hope this comes off.

He's just approaching 38, however Italian footballers are notorious for the way they are developed physically to play longer, a la the famous Milan fitness centre.
