Some more news on the Dempsey situation via the BBC.

Talking of Liverpool, and Clint Dempsey, here's BBC Sport's Ben Smith... and this might interest Tottenham fans too.

"Liverpool and Fulham are in talks to thrash out a last-ditch deal for Dempsey. The Anfield club made a straight cash offer for the 29-year-old United States forward on Friday afternoon. It came in below Fulham's valuation and was rejected but talks continue to reach a compromise closer to the £7m valuation.

The situation could yet be complicated by late interest from Spurs. Having already beaten Liverpool to the signature of Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer, Spurs have now expressed an interest in Dempsey although no bid has been made."

We seem to be working very hard to get Dempsey at the lowest possible price. Makes more sense from a financial point of view especially considering what we've paid for players in recent times.

But we don't want to leave it too late and not get it done. A balancing act i'm sure you'll agree...

Seriously gutted that he is, maybe, all we will end up with. Serious lack of ambition, we need a striker out and out, not someone who can play there when asked.

Sturridge on bench for Chelsea so not looking likely in other news Everton have made a bid for Butland.

Mark Lawrenson, BBC Sport

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live: "Liverpool cannot sign just Clint Dempsey, who is not an out-and-out striker. They need someone else as well, otherwise their problems will be the same as last year - not enough goals. I can just see them being in the same predicament as last season."

Did he say it in a bored, "I want to end my life each time I look in the mirror" kind of way?

Why did we let Bellamy go? Borini is played out wide, Suarez is fantastic but can't score, if we get Dempsey he's not really a striker.

Not often I agree with lawrenson but he is spot on here. Either we are being very clever in our dealings or downright bloody stupid...I predict the latter . Hope in BR's 180 page document it tells you how to turn non scoring forwards into goal machines.
Already this season in just a handful of games we are showing the same symptoms of wastefulness as last. Why let carroll go if replacement has not already benn lined up. Total stupidity.

Southampton fan laughing that they got a player we were no longer interested in? Given Joe Allen's start at Liverpool, I say we have a better player.

Ramirez is good though and hope he does you lot a service.
