I hope this gets finalised. Love watching this guy, top player. Probably the level just below modric but I think he could be a big success and you never know he might kick-on up to that next level

Who says he's the modric replacement?

No-one yet, my observation is that he's more suited to a CM than a DM, I feel he'd be wasted there having to show a degree of discipline, going forward on the occasional raid seems like I said, a waste. <ok>

I know mate, it was in reply to one of purley's usual **** comments.

I agree with you on position Notso. Still feel we need that creative man, though.

Apparently went to Fulham originally as a striker and Hughes(I think the article said) converted him into a midfielder.

He deffo played further up the field when he first signed. More of a 2nd striker I'd say (bit like keane). Never scored enough goals to play there for me.
I didn't see this news yesterday, thoroughly good start to the day!

I think he has the potential to be better. He has everything Modric has but is strong in the tackle and does his job defensively. Only criticism of him seems to be like Modric he doesn't score enough or get enough assists but I'm not sure that matters. He can fill the Modric role our VDV role quite easily. Extremely diverse and talented player

And to think they say that the only worthwhile exports from Belgium were Tin Tin, Poirot and Duvel beer.......

Magritte is one of the all-time great painters, so anyone who says that knows very little about history.

here's one of my favourite paintings

and besides Stella Belgium has produced a whole range of brilliant beers

For its size Belgium has given a lot to the world, including Georges Simenon, creator of Maigret

It's a country I'm very fond of

Apologies for double post :)

Don't get precious, G10 - was not meant to be a serious historical or cultural comment...... <yikes>

Fair enough Relayer, I wasn't even having a go at you, rather the 'they' in the post :)

I sometimes do read/hear such condescending remarks from people about Belgium, who clearly have little knowledge of culture and history, and their dismissal of the country reflects on them not Belgium.

If this goes though (which unfortunately it looks like it will) then you guys have got yourself a great player at a great price. Unless he had a £15 mil release in his contract I don’t think we would let him go.

His first season with us was mixed however last season he was a star for us. He doesn’t tend score as many goals as you would expect (he has only scored around 5 for us over the last two seasons) but creatively he is spot on and he tends to find options and pick out passes 99% or players wouldn’t see.

I think to keep him you are going to have to consistently get CL football as he is at that level. If you don't and does move on (like Rat Boy Modric) you will get a dam site more than £15 mil for him though.

As I have Belgian neighbours who are a complete pain in the arse - everybody here hates them, I suppose I should join the anti-Belgian brigade. However, like any country, it has it's good and bad bits. Bruges or Brugge, for instance, is gorgeous. Whereas Ostend, only a few miles away, is a complete dump.
