How many games do people go to a season, home or away?

I'd really like to find out, as there are often VERY strong opinions off people. I'd like to know if they have substance from some, or if they just like a whinge........

I live in Bristol, so I usually attend around 8 away games a season. I must confess, I have only been to Portman Road 3 times in my life.

Usual away days for me = Bristol City ( obviously ), Reading, Cardiff, etc etc.

Obviously I ALWAYS watch us if on sky, or if there is a foreign stream showing us at 3pm.
 
My Dad took me to my first game at Portman Road in 1974 and I became a season ticket holder in 1986 up to the end of last season when I decided that enough was enough!
 
I'm a season ticket holder, therefore I've sat through every home game for almost 10 years. Missed the first game of this season though - first game I've missed in years. Saw them at St James' Park a couple of years ago, but (due to a technicality) that was a home game for me...
 
Nowadays none unless on tv, listen to comentary, read every possible paper report on the web and what you guys have to say.
Like Warky, dad started taking me in the 70's, i think my first match was in 1976 and went to every home game and several away games every year until 2005 when i moved to Spain. Now have to rely on the good old web.
 
The worrying thing is that years ago you would walk round the Town and there would be plenty of kids wearing their Ipswich tops even up to 10 years ago! Nowadays you will be hard pushed to see many kids wearing Town tops in Ipswich! The longer our club stagnates the less and less we will see young kids following the Town. This is a worrying trend that only success can remedy!
 
Live in Wales so usually attend games in the N. West, (un)fortunately I couldn't make Blackpool, and to be honest I am very inconsistent in general but will always try and make 1 game at a minimum a season. Would love to finally make it back to PR not been since the start of 2008 - 09.

I base my opinions generally from a mixture of match reports, highlights and commentary from Final Score/ Soccer Saturday.
 
started going to about 15 games a season in the mid 90's, got a few half a season tickets, then had a season ticket in 2000 up until 2006 then due to many reasons, work & uni, moving away from the area etc, that was no longer viable but I still went to as many games as I could. I would literally work things around the football and if I was free and in suffolk I would go. Then after a few months of Keane being in charge, I started going alot less and trying to do things on a saturday afternoon so I wasn't tempted to waste my money going. Then when Keane left I started going a bit more again.

Still do not go to as many matches as I used say 3 years ago. Last season that was also due to a number of reasons, I was rarely in Suffolk and if I was the prices really did put me off, for the stage we were at (i.e a transition season/still in a mess) it wasn't worth paying at least £30 a game, although saying that the entertainment was certainly better than it had been previously even if we were getting resoundly beaten on many occassions. Went to a few away games if they were near me or a friend because overall they were cheaper!!

JWM its true there are far less football shirts around now than say 10-15 years ago and this may be partly for the reasons you say but I think its a general trend accross the country, people used to wear footy shirts as a fashion but now people only really wear them to go to football matches.
 
i had a season ticket from about 1998-2008 (i think my first game was johnny wark's testimonial against arsenal). I now try to get to home games when i am in suffolk (usually about 6-8 a season) and living in liverpool i get to a few of the away games up in the north. i have to rely quite a lot on the good old radio suffolk on most matchdays...

JWM i know what you mean about there being less young ipswich fans. from my own experience most of my mates in the area support the big premier league clubs. if they did originally support ipswich as a boy the awful last 7 or so years have without a doubt turned them to other clubs.
 
About the young supporters issue. From my own personal experience there's always an attachment to local clubs some will feel it more strongly than others. I am embarrassed to admit for about 14 years i was primarily a Man Utd supporter following Ipswich as a second club, so to my unbelievable shame i 'missed out' on our Premier League seasons. Even then utd and Ipswich were joint until the Chester game in 07 (my excuses are i didn't follow football that closely till after that either and that i followed a team for 'every' division)

The point is I think until about mid teens there will always be an element of pressure/embarrassment at openly supporting any other than a top four club.

OK my experience was shaped by being surrounded by Liverpool/Man Utd supporting school children since I moved to wales in 1997 so it might be skewed but i still think that unless you start seeing teenagers in Norwich and Colchester shirts around Ipswich there's any need to worry.
 
Season ticket holder - lower SBR stand - so go to all home games and most of the away games played on a weekend (mid-week away not usually possible)
 
On the youngsters in town, I would imagine quite a few follow both a big club and a local club. I was no different Im afraid. I grew up a Liverpool fan (since age of 5) and will still look out for their results and take in most of their televised matches, unless they conflict with Towns. I didnt start getting interested in Town until my mid teens and they are now my team and the only one I would consider myself to be a fan off. The Bhoy from my name comes from an interest in Celtic which also started way before I was a Town supporter. Again I take an interest in them these days but not as much as Town (tv matches, bbc website level of interest). If you skipped time backwards 15 years I would have been at nearly all Ipswich home matches but away from matches you would have been just as likely to see me in a Celtic/ Liverpool/ Barcelona or Tenerife shirt (the latter 2 as reminders of holidays to those destinations)
I have also owned Inverness, Brugge, York City shirts and an Ireland Rugby shirt, all of which were reminders of other trips. These days I only wear club colours when going to see the Town live in action.

My dad took me to a dozen home games a season during the mid 90's then sort of dropped off a bit but still want to a handful of home games a season, but once I went off to uni 4 or so years ago I started taking in 10 or more away games and maybe a couple of Home games, I must admit the price for one home match was the same as taking in 3 or more away days at the likes of Donny, Scunthorpe, Sheff Utd. etc. and living in Sheffield I decided to do a midlands and northern tour of stadiums and having lived in London for the past 12 months have carried that on here so I'm much more of an away day marauder these days, partly due to costs but mainly due to the atmosphere, though I'll usually still take in a couple of Home games a year

Try to make around 6-8 away games a season, would do more but my 13yr old son plays on Saturday mornings for Brantham Athletic.!
I have not missed a game that he has played in since he started at under 8s, St Johns back then, moved on to Chantry Grasshoppers (I was asst coach) now he is at Brantham Athletic..

Interesting that many posters on here are not regulars at PR, good to see that away games are taken in if in the area that fans have relocated too.......Once we get back in Europe Spanish......!!!
 
I was a regular in the nineties but I've not really lived in England since 2001. Tried to plan trips from Amsterdam to coincide with two home games in a row, regardless of opposition so that I could go twice. Impossible to go now but any trip to England will be planned around seeing as many home games as possible in a two week period.

Do you ever get to listen to the Radio Suffolk commentory via the internet or do you struggle with the time difference?
 
Season ticket holder until 1998 and then moved to Portsmouth and barely went at all until I moved to London in 2004 (when i joined 606 as IpswichTownLondoner or ITL as i was known). Then it was much easier to get back to Suffolk and get to games against the London sides so I was going to about 10-15 games a season from Royle to Magilton. Might sound terrible but under Keane we were on TV so much and were so dire that i didnt feel the need to go much! Since my brother and mum moved up north traditionally there has always been a boxing day jaunt to the midlands to see Town plus the odd Yorkshire game. Then I moved to Yorkshire at the end of 2009 with brief spells living in Southampton and Manchester and since 2010-11 I've been going to barely any home games at all (think the last was the 3-0 at QPR at home when Stead played a blinder). But to counteract that there are now around 15 league away games within reach from Posh and the midlands northwards plus the odd cup game. It obviously costs a lot more to drive around to all the away games than living in town and having a season ticket. I also prefer the atmosphere at away games as it's far more like the North Stand of old although I love getting home, just that it tends to be in the summer or over Christmas for a few days when we're not playing at Portman Road.
