Sky Sports understands QPR will offer Joey Barton a free transfer. We'll bring you more shortly. by Rachel Griffiths 4:01 PM
Now that's what I call a great club response. 11 million to spend elsewhere. We can get two good midfielders with that saving
Surely he was always 'free' to go, the question is how much will they have to give him to accept? The remaining portion if his contract is worth £11m or so in wages to him; he hasn't said he is willing to forgo that. Of course as far as the club is concerned he can go for free, but Barton is the one with the whip hand here. If he goes we'll probably never know what the actual cost was.
Would've preferred him to get his head down and play for us again as we need someone like him in Midfield at the moment, as much as it pains me to say it. Either way, glad this sorry saga is coming to an end.
In these cases if the player gets a job straight away then the compo paid is much less than paying off his entire contract. That is probably what the club have been holding out for. They could easily have thrown money at him to go away. Now he has somewhere to go. Marseille can have him for nowt and offer him a good wage. They have no initial outlay and can spread the wage. (Which is exactly what we did.)
Perhaps any assistance we can provide in subsidizing his wages can be creatively accounted for in the deal for Mbia?
You don't know what has been discussed behind closed doors .... ... and as Paladini was not involved we will never know!
Absolutely. It's not worked out but I desperately wanted it to work for him with us. As much as he can at times be a liability on and off the pitch, when at his best he showed himself to be able to mix it with some of the best in this league.
I am big enough to take it and I can respond, unlike Joey and your next victim Decided who that is yet?
