id like to see simpson and proschwitz given 90 minutes together at donny, and aluko wide ..hope he doesnt **** about playing youngsters etc, we need to get the 1st team gelling and scoring!
I agree with you there and I actually think Bruce will probably do this, or at least play a good strength side and use it as a game to try a couple of striking combinations. Can't do any harm can it. The League Cup does us no favours revenue wise anymore and we ain't gonna win it.
There's no extra revenue in it? Not even from just gate receipts? I think Bruce needs more time to assess properly who is capable of what and what the best team we have. Pre season really doesnt count so imo he's had 3 games. How many games was Nick in charge seeing as he never figured it out? So seriously, give the players and the team your support, we don't need to do a Coventry just yet ffs.
I see this silly crap about pre-season not counting too often on here, in that case why have a pre-season? Proschwitz should have got a few against the village sides pre-season then that would have helped him in the 4 matches he's had so far. It's not asking too much to put a player on the bench who was signed to score and isn't doing it, with the result that the team isn't scoring. Give Simpson a chance with Aluko, or even Mclean (who has actually scored this season). All those people putting bets on us for play-offs and promotion might not be wanting to wait for a couple of months for him to score and learn to play the target man role (glad I didn't as its going)
My opinion exactly. I definitely hope that the bloke didn't cost £2.6m, based on what I've seen so far. Agreed. Might mean we actually win at Donny for once too! Don't think I could face the ignominy of losing to a team in which both Billy Paynter and James Harper are playing.
I have my reservations about Proschwitz and City paying £2.6m, but if it was £1m as suggested by Mr BCC, then that seems more reasonable for a German Div 2 player. Yesterday was my first game of the season and the German fella looked quite skillful, hopefully just a matter of settling in. Aluko looked good and Faye is like a man mountain. Amos was excellent, though slow to get the ball out. Simpson was looking good, hope he starts next time.
Proschwitz may turn out to be ok - hope so - but Simpson is class, his turn from Aluko's through ball at Charlton was absolute top stuff. And the way he linked up with Aluko in the last 15 minutes made for the only time we really looked like we could have taken Charlton apart as we should have done.
FFS look at Olivier Giroud at the Arsenal, he's in the same boat as Prossy and much more in the spotlight, neither have scored yet but they both will.. both have new teammates, new systems, new countries and a higher level of league to adapt to. TWT FACT
Just looks out of his depth at the moment, I think the speed of the game here/long ball system isnt what he is used to
On the Simmo front I really do feel he has staked his claim for a start - what more can he do? He deserves a run out in a full strength team at Donny. It seems to me what we need more than anything at the moment is games together to breed confidence and awareness of each other's games and I would stick with the 90% of the same XI where possible for a good month.
Giroud is from the French top league theres a bit of a difference there! Their players come here and do well all the time.
That's the key thing. He's had spells in the past where he didn't score for his first 15 games or whatever and he's probably missed chances like the others somewhere along the line but looking at it right now all he's done is look our best attacker in pre-season, then from only sub appearances he's come on, got a winning goal and in the other two games once again looked like our best attacker and made us look significantly more like scoring a goal. I know managers need to play it safe sometimes with bigger forwards who can hold it up, but surely there comes a point where your best attacker has to get on the pitch simply because he's better than the competition?
Giroud is from the French top league, and playing in the English top league. Proschwitz is from the German Second League, and playing in the English second league. Not that much difference, would you say?
