without wishing to explode here, rhodes is completely out of the question. hooper is, in my opinion, not good enough to perform in the premier league on a regular basis. i've compared him to billy sharp and i think thats a fair comparison. £8m is laughable. we need to be looking to the continent...
You say that Rhodes is out of the question but I would have thought the same about Lucas Biglia. I am not saying that will happen but he will be asking at least what Rhodes would want. Personally I would rather we went into europe for a striker or maybe even Konate who played well at the olympics? Someone with genuine pace would certainly give us a new dimension especially if he could finish.
If Rhodes were available for the sort of price a player unproven above league one should be worth, then I'd love to have him. Fact is, as yet we don't know how good he'll prove to be in the Championship let alone the Prem. I know that was the case with Ashton, but the sort of money it seems it will take to get Rhodes from Hudders is, for me, too big a gamble for us. I want to see us bring in a striker, though. Don't think Martin is going to be up to it, & I still have my doubts about Jackson at this level. If we can get the midfield right (and these possible signings are very exciting), there'll be goals from our already good (but currently imbalanced) midfield. However, we'll still need a new face in attack.
I can't believe Hughton would let Vaughan go without at least a pretty good idea about someone to bring in as a replacement. From what people have said, it's hard to be positive about Hooper. I don't know why you are so negative about Rhodes, Superman, as long as he doesn't break our wage structure or cost too much. After all, we took a risk on Ashton years ago and it proved a good thing.
rhodes is out of the question because a) the club aren't and never have been interested in signing him; b) he is valued at a ludicrous price; and c) we can't afford his wages. it is very well known in footballing circles that norwich have literally no interest in jordan rhodes - that's why i get a bit frustrated hearing his name every five minutes indeed, out of interest, i just had a quick look to see what odds you could get on him coming to norwich and they didn't even offer odds on it - that's how out of the question it is!! as for biglia, his fee would be around the £8m mark i would guess, hence we are only getting him (assuming we do) on loan. saints tried to buy ramirez the other day and his wages were incredibly reasonable for a player of that undoubted quality. we won't be signing any player who doesn't fit in the wage structure and it seems that you don't get a lot for your wages in this country whereas on the continent players earn much less, therefore when they come here they get a big rise in wages even though to us it may seem a bargain.
just to add, i have never ever said i don't personally rate jordan rhodes. i think he's a very good young player . do i think he's good enough for the premier league? not sure - i'm very much 50/50 on it. do i think he's worth £7m up front plus add ons and £30k+ a week? absolutely no chance and i'm glad the club aren't even considering it. far too risky... £3m and £15k a week and i'd say go for it
I dont disagree with the figures and your opinion on Rhodes Supers. I think my point was more that we appear to be trailing Biglia who is a player that I wouldnt have expected. I also seem to think it was quoted he is available for £6.2m which seems like great business. I am surprised that other clubs arent more interested in signing him at that value, I'm thinking someone like Arsenal who are very prudent and i think need a player in that position.
yes, but the fact is, he isn't available at that price and even if he were, he wouldn't be coming here. that's why its such a pointless argument. i'd be far more interested hearing who people think we can realistically sign up front. i think people have been saying guidetti which is a good shout. anyone else? here's a shout - jozy altidore. now he had a bit of a mare at hull but he's grown up a bit since then. he's big, strong, quick, good goal scoring record in dutch football. wouldn't cost the world, maybe £2.5m?
well arsenal have certainly been interested in him as have real madrid. we as a club have got no problem paying transfer fees (though this would be a loan) - the issue is and probably always will be, at least until the ground is expanded, that we cannot pay big wages. if bigila is only on £10k a week at anderlecht then we can afford to pay him £20k a week, double his wages and he gets his stepping stone to a bigger club in 12 months time.
Totally agree. Its just a shame that if he comes here for a 12 month loan and is successful someone else will reap the rewards long time. I suppose that will always happen to the smaller Prem clubs though. I am not sure what strikers are out there but I see that Frazier Campbell is being looked at by Hull. I know he has had his injury problems (no point getting rid of Vaughan and then getting someone with a similar injury record) but i quite rate him. I am really not sure who else is out there that we could realistically afford and is available. I think a loan might be our best option and I dont know much about Guidetti but I have only heard good things. It sounds like there would be a lot of other clubs interested though.
if you look at wigan (and i know some people don't like being compared to wigan but they are a good example) they often only have players for a year, maybe two, before they sell them on at a huge profit so they can continue to reinvest in the team. this is the route that we will more than likely have to take because bigger clubs will always be sniffing out players doing well at smaller clubs. our most successful period as a club came whilst we were a selling club. its not something we want to be doing but i suspect if we want to stay up long term this will be the case.
Often with loan deals you get the option to buy if both parties are happy with it so if he is decent then we could get him. He supposedly has a 6.8m euro release clause in his contract so we know how much he would cost. A lot will depend on how he performs and how happy he is with the club and the area. If we have a good season and show more ambition he may want to come on board. If he has a blinder for us then it is likely he will end up at a club with deeper pockets than us but even if this is the case we will have survived again and have another season on the Sky gravy train. If we fail and go down then he won't be on the wage bill so this looks like a pretty shrewd piece of business.
....i don't know why people are even considering buying a striker from a british club. a rhodes clone from the continent would probably cost no more than £4M and his wages would be considerably less than his reported income. british players are totally overpriced because of the sky money.
It doesn't matter who plays the strikers roll, they won't score goals until we get the ball up to them in an area where they can use it! The DM must be the highest priority, then take it from there. We already have strikers who are more than capable of scoring the goals, they just need the ball! Jordan Rhodes? Not for me I'm afraid, I would rather keep Vaughan!
