Well said PISKIE. I would rep you for that post but I already have recently and it won't let me. Plus, I don't believe in giving a thumbs up under any man.

I started going to watch Arsenal in the mid 80's and we were very average. It wasn't until Graham came along that we started to win things, but even then the media used to slate us as boring boring Arsenal. It wasn't until Wenger came along that Arsenal were truly revolutionised. We set the standard for the modern premier league, and it was Wenger who brought the game into the modern age. Before he came along it was common for players to have a *** at half time and go straight down the pub after.

The influence he has had on our club and the game as a whole cannot be understated. I think he deserves a lot more respect that he's shown from some fans. They seem to want the moon on a stick and are quick to slate the manager, club, owners etc at the first sniff of trouble. What they don't realise is that it is because of Wenger, not despite him, that we have been in the top 4 consistenly, whilst those around us have been throwing obscene amounts of money around.
Do you remember the club being that skint that they were offering seasons tickets in exchange for fans to help paint the stadium.

I appreciate all that Wenger has done for us, and the english game in general. It was he who brought in the spanish style short passing game, we set the new standard in pitch quality, we revolutionised the way young players were bought. Wenger deserves applause for all of that.

But in these past few seasons, Wenger is one of the reasons we don't win. His refusal to play a straight up holding player against sides like ManUre ensures we nearly always lose to them, then there are the repetitive excuses, the miserable transfer windows etc. It's like he's got his fingers in too many pies. At our peak, we had Wenger doing the football, Dein doing the off field stuff. Since Dein's departure, and due to Gazidis' incompetence, it almost seems that Wenger has decided to try and take control of the off-field aspects too, which means he's taken his eye off the ball somewhat when it comes to the aspects we used to be renowned for. The quality of players we scout has dipped, the signings aren't what they used to be (no offence to Cazorla, he does look like a Wenger gem) etc.

on the other thread you write "I'm paranoid that Kroenke is going to do to us what the glazers did to ManUre. Yes, they win, but financiallly they're a mess.", and now this?

What the freck do you actually want? <laugh>

You think running it like a proper business is riskier than depending on a mad dictator type?

What i meant is that i'm worried about Kroenke doing that, i didn't say he's actually done anything wrong yet, just that i'm worried he will in the future. If you want to question my intelligence, try harder.

And where does wanting Usmanov in fit in with that?

I'm not being funny but why do you say Gazidis is incompetent ?

Even though it was not from the best sources out there, I see we got linked with Navas today. A huge upgrade on Walcott.

I want usmanov in because he will invest, and we'd still have the surplus that Piskie explained was basically an emergency reserve, just in case he overspends.
One of the first things Usmanov did when he started having a major shareholding is say that shareholders should be paid a dividend. It's funny that all of our other shareholders don't see the need to be paid a dividend

Because he's demonstrated on numerous occasions he is. He's our marketing "Guru" (i use that term in it's loosest sense), yet somehow it didn't occur to him that a tour in Nigeria (which thankfully got cancelled) would be a terrible idea, unless the idea of having our players risk their lives in a wartorn country was a good idea, and i'm just thick.

Then there's his famous inability to negotiate, or maybe he just doesn't understand it. As CEO, it's his job to negotiate transfers. Losing out on Mata just because he didn't want to pay an extra 2 million was madness, especially for a club of our standing.

And he seems to enjoy selling players to Citeh to, not suprising considering he once stated that he's a Man City fan.

Is there any proof about the Mata transfer or is just the usual gossip.?
I think saying Nigeria is war torn is being a little melodramatic.Playing a game in Africa's most populated country is quite a good idea when your trying to spread the Arsenal "brand".You may find the club has now got sponsorship deals with African drinks and phone companies.Gazidis has also got us deals with Carlsberg,Bettson and Indesit.Sometimes Gazidis does deserve a little bit of credit

Our sponsorship deals are among the lowest earning in the league though. The other top teams are earning more than double of what we make through sponsor income.

Tbh most of the newer, more expensive deals have been signed recently, while ours is pretty old if I'm not mistaken.
