Whether it's a panic buy or not is a red herring. The important thing is that we correct all the things that went wrong on Saturday and that requires more than just different players in the same slots.
interesting article here about bassong... http://www.sabotagetimes.com/footba...l-be-an-astute-acquisition-for-norwich-city/? the last two paragraphs of the piece sort of sum up my feelings and worries, but also gives some hope (see below). "In Hughton, however, he is likely to have a manager who isn’t afraid to put his arm round him and give him the boost that he so desperately needs, having known the defender from his Newcastle days. With the confidence from the gaffer, Bassong has proven that he is a top, top centre-back. However, his concentration is one key factor that will need to be worked on. Too many times he was caught out of position or blissfully unaware of an opposing striker coming in behind before it was too late. If Hughton can eradicate this problem and allow a promising partnership to blossom with Turner, then Bassong will become a real asset to the Canaries."
It seems to me that the majority are assuming that Bassong will replace Bennett!! Having only seen Turner on Sky extended highlights last weekend,Turner looked the worst CH of the 2 playing. Surely Bennett must play with Bassong,or am I missing something ?? (again)
...or, something none of us have considered, three centre halves in the same way wigan play, 3-4-3? doubt it, but its a possibility i suppose!
It was one game yarco, plus I think they'll probably all 3 play a similar amount of games by the end of the season, I think it'll be Turner and Bassong myself, but Bennett will fill in when required and as Supers says could mean we can alter formation.
So are we saying that on the evidence of one game we are going to go with Turner and Bassong? Last season when we signed Bennett,he was "the dogs" and certainly had an excellent end to the season. Is Turner that much better than Bennett? Is Bassong that much better than Bennett? Are we buying just to appease fans? Having got rid of Whitbread(mistake) and loaned out Ayala(mistake) are we any better off? Martin had fantastic games at CH last year, obviously no place for him now!! I hope I am wrong, but I am getting very nervous .
Turner and bassoong but Bennett will play a lot of games due to injuries, lack of form, suspensions etc Do we think Barnett will leave now? Looks likely as he is 5th choice cb. Someone in the championship. Also expect a few more to go this week most probably on loan I don't see this as a panic buy and hope he can do well for us
Me too. I guess Hughton will have to play Turner because he bought him, even though he looked much worse than Bennett last Saturday. I have to keep faith but it is getting harder all the time, especially if we end up buying this Celtic forward for a ridiculous amount of money.
'getting rid' of whitbread was not a mistake. he wanted too much money and was injury prone. he was not going to be a regular so why pay him big money to sit on the bench/injury table?
i find it ludicrous that people claim they are losing the faith after one result. had we lost 2-0, would you feel the same way? get a grip.
If you want to see what panic buying is then look no further than QPR loaning a CB who has been finished for a good 2 years now and playing on past reputation....I give you Carvalho.
yeah, but i tell you what, they aren't bad players - just insanely priced or on enormous wages! always liked carvalho myself. dawson is a good player too but not worth anywhere near the price they are paying.
I watched a fair bit of La Liga last season and you will be surprised at just how quickly Carvalho has declined..really looks a shadow of his former self. Dawson IMO is a quality player if you can keep him fit and I initially thought at 5m they were getting a good deal but 9m?! Wages of what..50k? No thanks.
I'd say we are - Whitbread was injury prone, spent more time with the doctor and physio than his team mates and put in a demand for higher wages - Ayala was injury prone, spent more time with the doctor and physio than his team mates and needs to get game time to establish a true fitness record and gain experience - it was right to loan him out. Both Turner and Bsssong give me more confidence than Zak and Daniel even though both of these guys were/are competent centre backs. I expect Barny will make way now and will go to a Championship side and I expect Bassong/Turner and Bennett to contest the selection with Ward as the back-up when suspensions and injuries occur with Rusty and Whittaker available to deputise if things get really hairy.
i'll take your word on carvalho - didn't get much game time at real madrid last year. i thought chelsea missed him badly when he first left.
