£12m is an absolute steal. Only 21 and a fantastic player who will improve.

£12m for a player of Ramirez's standard and potential is an absolute steal.

That would be just you. Cortese isn't a risk taker. It might clear the coffers a bit, but I'm sure the books will balance.

I said something similar and people disagreed with me.

I was having this conversation with a non supporting Saints mate at the weekend. He was basically saying that if the reported figures are true (the £12 mil and 30-35k a week net income), then are we becoming a bit too reliant on the Liebherrs money as its almost certainly not sustainable with the current revenues the club is generating.

My answer was that yes, if this deal did come off and the Liebherrs pulled out then we would be running at a loss that others may not find an attractive proposition in terms of buying the club, but there is no indication of that happening soon and to move to the levels that Cortese has been talking about we would have to invest in the playing squad significantly. I didn't expect it this quickly, thought we would be trying to get more established in the Prem first, before spending large fees on transfers, but I trust Cortese in his decisions as he hasn't let us down at all so far.

Assuming Cortese hasn't started to lose his head, I'm sure he wouldn't offer anything unless he's sure that we can afford it.

I think you guys are forgetting about this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/jun/13/premier-league-tv-rights-3-billion-sky-bt

Premier league teams are all obscenely wealthy by world standards. Compared to Bologna we are Real Madrid.

And compared with a few years ago, a £35k per week salary is average, if not below average.

This deal might seem extravagant, but for a premier league club with no debts, it simply isn't.

The Leihberrs would not pull out leaving us in a bad way...they'd lose money. Be like stripping out your bathroom and kitchen before selling your house. We are an asset in which Markus has invested a lot of money...they are more likely to sell us at the top when they would realise a large profit, The family isn't exactly down to its last billion.

I trust our people implicitly, but it does make me nervous.
So, anyone else out there got any concerns, or am I on my own?

And that would just be me also.

It is a little disconcerting as that money represents a fair bit of risk. I trust what Cortese and Adkins and the other scouts see in a player if they do spend the money on him. I think you speak with a wiser mind than some on here HR ;)

Exactly. The only people who get outraged at fees like £12m and £35k a week are people who don't understand the financial situation of English football.

I mean, you can still choose to disagree with it and battle with "sustainability" arguments if you choose to ignore future projections etc, but the fact remains - if we don't spend at that level, we will not be able to progress and we will be left behind. £12m, £35k a week for someone of Gaston Ramirez's standard cannot be refused.

Apparently Bologna trying last minute to bring in Tottenham in the trade for Ramirez, in order to receive the raise requested

    So a Prem team can't afford 35-45k a week on a player <laugh> seriously
