Does seem odd! The other teams linked were Hannover and Fulham before weren't they? Seems a bit of a step up!

 

Can't say I expected that. Really think that he would have been a great addition, if not for the sudden burst of insanity from his kin.

 

United probably thought if he was good enough for Saints he was good enough for them.

Adkins also confirmed he expected more signings before the August 31 deadline, although offered no update on the deal to get Ramirez to the club, amid reports the transfer is close to collapse.

"We have been linked with a few players," he said.

"I don't know if there are any more developments but there will be more players coming into the club before the transfer window shuts."

 

Call me a cynic if you like but doesn't the Buttland saga smell a bit fishy? We had the deal cut and dried the Player was happy to come here, then a mystery third party intervenes, a Manure tap perhaps?

 

Are there reports it's close to collapse? I've literally not seen that said once.

 

I did see one on or two on Friday but I think they were reacting to the Chairman's statement about it not being done = collapse. As you have summed up before just seems to me that the player had jumped the gun and that the fee hadn't been agreed. They seem to have come out now and said how much they want... I think Cortese will hammer out a deal and he will be ours by Friday

Since Friday's "offer not accepted" fuss all I've seen is positive news - including today where the guy who first broke the deal said he expected Ramirez to be a Southampton player by the Wigan game.

Hopefully now people will shut up about "needing cb's with pace" none of our goals were conceded due to lack of pace. Hopefully the few idiots on here will realise that....then again they probably won't.

He wasn't denying we need CBs (because he's not an idiot), he was saying that the obsession a few people have with wanting CBs to be pace machines is really stupid (because it is).

 

I'm not denying we need at least 1 or maybe 2 new centre backs, but the whole pace thing really pisses me off. Fonte and Hooiveld both showed today what a lot of people already know - they are PL standard.

 

A CB with pace is a bonus though.

 

As is a striker who scores free kicks. Nice to have, but certainly doesn't ruin a player. Any competent CB positions themselves so they don't need to be a sprinter.

 

True. Unless of course "slow" refers to a player who can't even break into a run.
