I was trying to rational that bit of the BBC article in that other thread, but thinking about it more, I can't. If true, it's staggering.

Also, is Wenger the sort of bloke that will bring up that issue with someone just before a game?

It makes total sense to me.RVP issued a statement saying he wouldn't be signing a new contract.Wenger tells him if i get a good enough offer for you then you can **** off

<ok>

That is nothing but damage control from RVP's agent.

When you are a club captain and make a ****ish move like that you can't expect that the coach will be fine with you telling him how to do his job.

I read elsewhere thought that it's a tactic Nasri tried, to make it look like Wenger was the bad guy to get some heat off himself.

How so?

Would you expect Wenger to say that blackmail from players is fair play? Or that he wouldn't have brought in reinforcements if RVP, the club captain, wouldn't bitch publicly about the club's dealings?

It has been said many times in the past that AW has a ruthless streak

Basically, that statement from RVP and his people worked. It was made to burn the bridges between him and the club and it has. Openly questioning the 'direction' in which Wenger was taking the team would have pissed him off big time. There was no way back.

Also, the phrase "it is understood" by places like the BBC and the Guardian is the equivalent of "our sources have informed us" which the tabloids use. Same bullshit, basically, but paraphrased in passive form to remove accountability for spewing bullshit.

All the so called ITK's have always said that we were looking for 2 more signings. With the possible departure of Song, that could now be 3.

who gives a **** what happened, the guy is gone, so lets move on, i for one am glad that it is over

Tweets from Jamie Sanderson on what's happening with Alex Song.

Arsenal to meet with Alex Song to discuss his future. Club are furious at agent offering him around clubs.

Arsenal hopeful of keeping Song, but will consider selling if he refuses to discuss a contract extension. Talks in next few days.

Arsenal have already got a dossier on potential Song replacements.

Song has three years left on his contract, but will be offered better terms to commit. Up to him now. Club happy to offload him.

I get impression the penny is starting to drop for Arsenal. Club refusing to be bullied by players. If Song won't commit, he'll go.

@AFCAMDEN

Theo Walcott expected to sign a new long-term contract with Arsenal soon. "He loves it here".

Hope that's true. Walcott has impressed me a lot in pre-season.

Wenger: "The economic factor is the sole satisfying thing, but you don't play with money on the pitch, you play with the quality of the players. To lose a player of this ilk is tough".

Is he talking to the board? He has never said such things as "I do not know if we survive" before. s he trying to convince the board of the need to reinvest? Or is he just saying how it is and that we can not find a proper replacement for RVP.?
