I don't understand why SAF is trying to buy Van Persie, even though he is one of the best strikers in the world it seems like a waste of money if you consider the amount of strikers at the club already and also his decision to fast track the signing of Angelo Henriquez. That would take the number of centre forwards at the club to 7 (Rooney, Welbeck, Chicharito, Berbatov, Macheda) plus RVP and Henriquez if he gets his work permit.
Last Season Rooney played as a number 10 but ended up with number 9 stats plus he is better as a number 9 because when he plays as a 10 it becomes a 442 and against better teams it makes the midfield outnumbered, Which is why I thought Kagawa was bought, but if SAF goes on to buy Van Persie for £20m plus and gives him Rooney type wages, You can only justify that by playing him with Rooney, which only means that Kagawa would have to be moved to the wing or in to a two man central midfield or even worse to the bench, which makes the team only marginally better than it was last season as it was shown when Utd played against the stronger teams with a 442.
Even If SAF decides to go with one striker in Europe or against the stronger teams in the PL, then that means that one of Rooney or RVP is going to be on the bench and the big question is how are they going to handle being benched, as these are two of the most important players in the world and i am sure they have the egos to go with that as well and they will not like sitting on the bench against the likes of a City, or Chelsea, an Arsenal or a Liverpool, even worse will be if they have to sit down for the likes of a Real or Barca and if this happens then it would create a huge problem for SAF and in effect the club, at least on the playing side, but if he decides to just play the two of them anyway then he would be settling for the best players instead of the best team and ultimately you end up winning nothing.
Obviously there are other options he has like moving Rooney out wide but in all honesty he is not better than Valencia, Nani or Young out wide.
And If he plays Kagawa wide or in central midfield the he would have just been a wasted signing and would be better off at a club prepared to play him in his rightful position and improve him as a player. He would also be stunting the growth and development of Welbeck and Hernandez as well as Macheda and the prospective signing of Henriquez and that is even without mentioning Berbatov .
The one thing I hope for next season is to not see players being played in the wrong positions due to injury and being classed as versatile, when they do not provide the quality needed to play in that position. When they can sort out the positions that need covering right now such as the two full back positions and a central or defensive midfielder and maybe a young winger (left preferably) to cover for any injuries to the 3 main wingers rather than going for the luxury that is RVP when it is clearly not needed at this stage.
