    From Wikipedia:

So yeah, we're talking about the likes of Rooney and Tevez. Whatever you want to call Messi, he does a very different job to this description. I don't think he'd be very good at the "outmuscle" part.

He's definitely not a midfielder :p I think Iniesta and Xavi have the attack minded midfield role pretty much handled.

Hes not really a striker either though. Perhaps the Messi should be the name of a new position ;)

Pretty much is a striker! He's normally the furthest man downfield.

You conveniently omitted the first part of the description which certainly does not describe Tevez.:

    Pseudo centre forward? False 9?

Not an easy role to play and hence why only a few players through history have made it their own.

I omitted it because the paragraph starts by suggesting the traditional definition, and then moves onto the modern definition, which is the part I posted. Most teams don't rely on a tall centre-forward any more.

Regardless, I would still describe Tevez as a good target man despite his height.

Trequartista is more-or-less the same thing.

You don't need to be tall to be a target man, by far the most important thing for a target man is presence. The ability to win the ball in a crowd, bring balls into your body etc. To say it's just winning headers is very much an understatement

Falcao.I've never seen a player with such great awareness and anticipation.

He is a fantastic header of the ball and a clinical finisher.

Some Saints fan on Tw!tter (yes, I know) reckons he saw Adkins arriving back in the country from either Germany or Switzerland but was very coy on what player he went to see/speak to.

If true (which I highly doubt) maybe Kjaer? Too unrealistic?

He'd be an insane singing. He did say (Kjaer) about a month ago that he never wants to play under the current Wolfsburg manager again, so he's looking to move.

No but Cortese always buys a european player in the summer. Like Papa Waigo, Guly, De Ridder and there should be one this year.
