As a Club we have in the last two or three seasons attracted better quality players than we have in the past. My question is whether sufficient attention has been given by the Club Management to buying players who not only have better skills but crucially have character. Are they winners? Do they compete to the end even when things are not going well? In an age when Premiership money can attract players to a Club from around the world it seems to me that the Clubs that will succeed will be those that identify in a potential signing the crucial ingredient of "character." How do you rate the "character" of some of our recent signings?
This is such a good point which I never expected to hear from a Sunderland supporter. I'm glad at least one person can see it. Look at NUFC. We have players with plenty of character and persona who can have a team built around them and play a big role in maintaining morale, motivation and team spirit, such as: Harper (been here ages) Ameobi (been here ages) Nolan Barton Tiote Colo Jonas Who do you guys have? The only bloke I can think of is Gyan, and possibly Bardsley. I certainly don't see any in your captain.
Too many not prepared to put a foot in and contest the opposition for the ball for fear of getting hurt. In addition too many not prepared to accept any sort of responsibility. Probably most importantly, no one is prepared to get into the face of team mates who give up or fail miserably. We need someone like Roy Keane or Gary Neville to do that. We also have a manager who spends too much time talking up the opposition in pre-match interviews. I'm sick to death of hearing him say "today's match will be a real tough one" or something similar. In my view he should forget about talking about the opposition and talk up his, and our team.
That's rich coming from you lot. Character....heh heh what about when Bowyer and Dyer were punching 10 bags of ****e out of each other ...Character.
Spot on. Wigan, Saturday. No boring team talk from SB, just tell 11 professionals to go and do a job.
