On a side note. Tash, do you really think Arshavin has had a good season?

I must have been watching different games to you, he has been off the boil this season!

His first season was excellent, but since then he's been very disappointing, which is a shame as on form he's one of my favourite players around.

Imagine it, personally I think they'd be something like:

London(4-3-3): Cech; Ivanovic, Luiz, Dawson, Cole; Modric, Fabregas, van der Vaart; Nasri, Drogba, Bale
Manchester(4-3-3): van der Sar; Richards, Vidic, Kompany, Evra; Silva, Scholes, Toure; Rooney, Tevez, Johnson

Modric, van der Vaart and Nasri as a midfield 3 would never work, too attacking. Put Essien in for VDV.

Anyway, a north east team would beat the manchester and london teams any day of the week.

Harper

Simmo
Willo
Collo
Enrique

Barton
Nolan
Tiote
Gutierrez

Ben Arfa

Gyan (the only sunderland player I dont despise)

These awards are voted for by the players so they obviously think Bale has had a good season. And it covers the whole season not just the Premier league so it would include Bale's performances in the CL. I think it's only general performances so I don't think all the stats being rattled off on here mean a great deal but that being said people saying Berbatov shouldn't be in team of the year he is the top goalscorer in the Prem this year. The reason that the top 4-5 clubs have a lot of players in the team of the year is because they ARE the top 4 or 5 clubs in the league, won more games, lost less, scored more, conceded less.

I'm a massive Bale fan but he wouldn't have got my vote. He's only played 26 league games and his best performances have been in Europe. I would have given it to either Nani, Vidic or Tevez. Can't disagree with much of the PL team of the season other than Baines or Enrique should've been in ahead of Cashley who has had a poor season by his standards. Would probs have had Van der Vaart instead of Berba too.

This award is for English based players but is across all competitions so his European exploits would count, it's voted for by the players so they obviously thought he was a worthy winner.

Or they just buy into media hype, or those with sense voted for Tevez/Nani, but not enough in each camp to outvote Bale.

In my opinion Bale won this on hype, rather than performances on the field. The media have been big'n him up all over the place this season with huge money moves to europe's finest. And unfortunately because there hasnt really been a stand out player this season - someone head and shoulders above the rest (a la Ronaldo 07/08 season), I get the feeling Bale would have been the first person to come to mind when voting took place.
