It has been an awfully long time since Leeds United started a season with a dedicated and recognised right back and left back combination, criminal really.
A good signing for us. A welcome bit of pace in an otherwise slow team, seems to be decent going forward and a good defender. The defence is shaping up well - Kenny, Drury, Pearce and Peltier sounds quality, although I'm a bit unsure about Tom Lees. He needs a much better season that last year if we are going to have a strong defence. Warnock's QPR team was built on a strong defence though, so maybe his organisation and training can help Lees develop more than SG's poor defence record did. We'll be difficult to beat this year, a lot more so than last season. I doubt we'll see 5-0's, 7-3s, etc. this time. But like people have said, where's the creativity going to come from? Austin, Green, Norris, Brown will provide a strong midfield base, and we know that Becchio and McCormack and Norris from midfield can put away chances, but I can't see who will be the provider. Varney can create, as he has shown at Pompey, Blackpool etc. but we'll need a very big season from him and Rogers and White will need to step up to the plate if they are going to be our wingers.
Personally I think it's a cracking signing for you, the garbage players usually in our midfield made pelts look worse than he is (Gallagher main culprit), constantly leaving him exposed because gally bottles every tackle. Pains me to say it but I think NW is quietly building a decent side for you guys, speaking to friends in Ossett they seem happy! Good luck for the season ahead - be happy for a Leicester/Leeds top 2!
Farsley - Good signing for Leeds - Colin knows his Championship players although he might just have to work on his penchant for getting too far forward, he needs to remember he is a defender first and foremost, but like I said, a good defender
A football connoisseur after my own heart, someone who understands the game We have had a great set of defenders through our doors in the last few years, and each of them came with a great pedigree, and left with their heads hanging, wondering how it all went so badly wrong. And it is because of exactly what you wrote - our midfield gave them no protection. Great at going forward, cause bedlam when - or don't even bother - coming back. A solid midfield that protects a solid defense is exactly what we need to give ourselves a chance. And once they are all happy playing together and understand each others' runs, then we add in the icing on the cake, and I am sure we will be doing very well this year
The midfield was Leicesters main problem last season - gave the defence hardly any cover and provided the front two with bugger all as well, seems some fans don't recognise this and seemed to criticise the defence and not the midfield, hopefully this has been addressed for the coming season as we are fooked yet again otherwise! Mentioned it before but I think pelts is a decent right back who has been let down by others - am genuinely sorry he's gone as he will only get better and better and it's for someone else's benefit!
Official he hasn't been offered a contract yet http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co....nie-s-whites-move-in-balance-latest-1-4807148
I think I must have read somewhere that Warnock was planning on talking with him. I dunno where I get half my info these days
