I don't really like the way football is going, to be honest. I mean, I can watch Barcelona and enjoy it but the physical contact element is being pushed out by play acting, tactical diving and gullible referees.
Yes, it's easy to create another sport where there is more space and less physical contact so you can knock it about for hours and find all sorts of passes. But I prefer physical games where it's not just about ball control and close passing but also physical effort.
I guess what I'm saying is that the way some modern teams are playing isn't wrong, if that's where they want the sport to go. But it is changing things and football is not what it was in it's history. It's become a different sport, in a way. I would prefer it to have a good balance of old and new.
Most of all, I want referees to be trained more appropriately so that they are tough on cheaters and play actors and can spot them out better, too.
