Flair players didn't get us anywhere in the past, so I'm happy going down the 'boring, kick lumps out of the opposition route'. I'll be happy with a breakaway goal in the first minute and sitting back and defending for the next 89 minutes. No more 6-4 home defeats after being 4-1 up thank you very much
Essex Not disagreeing with Simon/Ristac neither but I'm like Essex and trying to stay optimistic. As for some of the signings, well look at it another way. how many times have we got rid of a player who was garbage, and then see a different player for his new club. It happens, so why can't it be true that Warnock sees something in a player and knows how he'll use him to best effect, when Pearson as an example doesn't know how to get the best out of Peltier/Beckford. Drury has been player of the season at Norwhich countless times and the fans love him there. Pearce is different class and something this club hasn't had since Kissa was in his pomp. Green another player loved at his former club, and shows a lot of promise. Austin could be the player of the season in ourleague, or could be a flop, but lets give the boy a chance. Paddy is a solid performer and has never let any club down (On the pitch) Norris, Varney are players highly regarded in some quarters, and will have to win us fans over, but let them have a go. One things for sure, and thats we will not leak goals and for me a massive improvement over watching garbage teams hammer 4, 5 and 6 past us for the last 2 seasons. I'm still expecting one or two top signings
Exactly and even I am having my doubts now. I read two weeks ago that the money had been transferred - Obviously it hadn't and now it is excuses about the mass tangled web of going through the Bates accounts. My snapping point was the new owners speaking to Snoddy to change his mind and Snoddy saying no. I think we forget that Snoddy still had a year of his contract left, we could have made him play it out. The new owners could have said to Snoddy we will give you x amount and we have xyz players lined up or a fund pot of £xxx - They could have turned around to Bates and said sell Snoddy and the deal is dead, we need him, he is part of our future plans. Snoddy wasn't happy with what he heard, asked to leave and Harvey sanctioned it - Something very fishy going on IMHO
I completely agree that we don't have those types of players yet and, yes, I don't think Boyd is good enough imo either.... however (and it's a big however), I believe we have the base of a decent squad and like NW said, we just need a few stand out players to really kick on! As frustrating as it is, nobody on here really knows details and how far we are with the takeover etc so although we don't look a promotion worthy side now, this time next week we could be signing 3-4 crackers! Then again we may have exactly the same squad we have now with not much to look forward to i the season ahead. My point is, no I don't think we should be ecstatic about how things stand but we shouldn't gloom monger either as it could all work out fantastically well. I think we just have to be patient and sit it out for now! That's not to say you shouldn't have an opinion, just don't work yourselves up too much when it's all up in the air
That's what I said before Doc - My only hope is that Warnock moulds this bunch into something special, a sold winning team rather than a team of individuals. I remain hopeful but not optimistic, I still feel we will do well to finish mid table. Yes harder to beat but what when we go 1-0 down, I can't see the quality to pull 2 goals back and agree about the 4-1 to 6-4 although I would be amazed if this team scores 3 goals not alone 4
I'm personally looking forward to LUST's excuses for the whole takeover farce. I really do wonder how much of what we thought might happen was true.
Spot on Doc we had flair players in abundance when we started off last season at Southampton and that game was painful to watch. Snodgrass looked disinterested and unfit even then. Let's give these new guys a chance
How are we going to score goals? Who is going to provide the ball into the area to even allow the forwards a chance to score? We don't have the type of players required to move the team forward, so goals will be very hard to get. Long kick from Kenny and hope for the best is the way I see it.

Guys, I'm known on here as an eternal optimist, but basically I'm just grateful for small mercies, and looking forward to having another great day. If you've faced your own mortality, you'll know what I mean. My view at this time is that I'm actually looking forward to the season ahead, even if we don't complete our takeover, or sign our 'marquee' players. Why you ask? Are you mad? The answer is that the thing that has destroyed me over the last few years is the lack of effort & consistency about Leeds. We'd have a world beating display against a cracking team, then follow it with a run of mediocrity - defeat & draws against supposedly crap teams. Now, I honestly believe that Leeds will have some bite again - not quite to the standard of the Bremner/Giles/Huntet/Charlton years, but something to relish. I'm looking forward to fortress ER again. When was the last time we could say that? As for the takeover, it will happen eventually, but perhaps not in time for this transfer window. Upside is we'd have some money to spend in the January window! First time in years. And we all know there's always a lot of bargain buys then. It would be great to buy some inspirational players then, and kick on for the second half of the season. Something we've failed to do for years. I'm afraid it's time for that 'patience' word again. I think we've all got carried away a bit with the takeover talk and set our expectations for the season far too high. Warnock is undoubtedly the man to get us promoted, but even Jesus Christ couldn't manage that miracle without an appropriate budget. And we don't have that yet, and as I said earlier, we might not get in this window. So what did we expect Warnock to do under these circumstances? Sign bugger all until the takeover was complete? Nah, wouldn't work, would it? Sign excellent players on the never never? Nope, even if Bates allowed it, how would be convince said players that we had sufficient ambition, far less the funds to pay their wages? Mission impossible! So Warnock has done the right thing. He's wheeled & dealed (sic) to build a solid squad within the pathetic means he has at his disposal. And I challenge anyone to have done better. so why are we criticising Warnock & his players? He's done the best he can, and the team will do so too. They're all that kind of player. They'll do what Warnock has brought them in to do. This is a low budget squad, and we all better start realising that, and stop reaching for the stars. Start getting behind your manager & team now. Stop blaming the manager & his squad for the failings of Bates! Bates out, Bates out, Bates out!!!
Agree, but we don't have to lie to ourselves about the quality of the squad and we can see that, from his comments, Warnock appears to be looking for new players in the wrong positions.
Simon, keyword is 'appears'. Are you believing the media/rumours, or have you talked to Warnock himself? What exactly are you judging him on? 'He appears to have committed a murder m'lud, I've got loads of irrelevant opinions as evidence'!
Here's an idea lads. For once, why not wait till weve played a few games before having a go at the new Players. Talking about some people not giving lads a chance, unbeleivable
I'm judging him on what he's saying! He says he wants strikers and has so far said something about the attacking midfielders and wingers we so desperately need.
Good lad, I knew you'd come round to my way of thinking in the end Flair players have gone, in with the hatchet men. Isn't that how Revie started off?
"We will not be doing a Man City." Neil Warnock a few weeks ago. Why do some of us still equate a takeover with major funds being made available for the transfer market?
Well, well. Since my thread on the extreme negativity, some posters appear to have decided to be rather more positive and to back the players and the manager. The way I look at it, the last 15 matches last season was relegation fodder form. The new look squad is very unlikely to be in that form, which means a massive improvement. The midfield of Snodgrass, Clayton, Howson, Gradel never played particularly well together, and certainly not consistently, either for a whole game or across a number of games. Then Gradel chose to leave, Howson chose to leave (with a little push), Clayton was pushed, and Snoddy had no intention of staying. So we had to get a brand new midfield in this summer. We have done that. We have had a good build up in the pre-season. And we are still looking for a coupe of marquee signings. It's all looking much rosier than the horrid pre-season we endured last year.
