The Italianâs departure could help speed up Joe Allenâs move from Swansea, though it is understood that Liverpool FC are keen to press on with that deal regardless.
The Welshman, currently away with Team GB at the Olympics, is Rodgersâ number one transfer target, and the Reds are confident they can strike a deal with Swansea in time for the start of the new Premier League season on August 18.
The 22-year-old, as revealed in the ECHO last week, has a clause in his contract which would entitle him to speak to Liverpool if they table a bid of £15m.
Rodgers, though, is hopeful of agreeing a lower fee with his former club, and could offer one of the Redsâ younger players on loan in a bid to sweeten the deal.
Allen is keen to be reunited with his former boss on Merseyside, and though Swansea issued a statement condemning Liverpoolâs conduct in pursuing the player, it is understood that they are privately resigned to losing the midfielder before the end of the transfer window.
