Chester doesn't look comfortable in the middle of the park to me. Much better at the back. Matty was ace today, easily the best bit of business we've done this year. Class act. Devitt did okay. There is a very good player in there. McLean needs an arm around him and a goal. At 3-1 we seemed to turn off the gas allow them too much of the ball and we played on the break. A better side than Donny made have made us pay. But its on you know...Its b****y on.

Obviously apart from the dopes who ring in KCFM, (most of whom still vote for Fraizer Campbell anyway) was I one of the only ones who thought that Chester was close to MoM today? i thought he was solid as a rock. he has the distribution of a central defender but that is what he is!

i like having him in there..i commented earlier in the week, that he could be the man to fill our ashbee shaped void..
when you think about it, most of ashbees qualities where more centre back like then a midfielder, so a good fit ;)

A day to be savoured - TWF praises Nigel Pearson! I didn't think we would change to the team that finished (and played so well) at Swansea, but all credit to them. Left a bit exposed at the back, but as the gaffer rightly said, now is the time to start taking risks and playing more openly.

Definitely the best home game this season, both in terms of performance and atmosphere. Never rated our play-off chances that highly but teams around us are looking increasingly pressured and edgy. Another home win next week and I have a feeling we could be on to something...

I thought Chester had a good game, I like him and Evans in the middle, they're mates, they have a good understanding of each other and they're both good with the ball at their feet. We played some good stuff today and they were at the centre of it, when their mate Stewart returns, things can only get better.

I still want Ajose on the opposite wing to Stewart as well next season. The 4 of them all having come through at Man U together and the two wingers both being able to switch flanks comfortably, it's nice to have a feeder club with such a good youth setup.

It's very possible that entire midfield would be earning less than McShane as well. I say earning, I mean getting paid, I don't expect McShane to really be earning his money if he's still with us next season.

Before someone picks up on it, with that midfield I'd have Koren playing behind Fryatt in more of a 4231 formation. Against a back 4 in this division it'd be terrifying. Keep the wingers wide and running the flank, Koren dropped off can play the ball between the full back and centre half (or over the full back if he comes narrow). As soon as he does the opposite winger would be darting into the box as the 2nd striker. If the fullbacks have stayed wide to be with the wingers it spreads the defence and Fryatt can work on getting between the centre halves for Koren to play him straight in.

When we play Koren out wide, he doesn't really play out wide, he drifts in all the time, despite our attempt to go 4-1-3-2, we really went 4-1-2-1-2

We had a bit more width today(with Garcia), but Koren still naturally goes inside and tries to play behind the front two. He's definitely happier playing the Geo role, but the rest of the team doesn't really suit that sort of formation. When it worked for us before, we had Marney, Ash and Boateng in the middle, all fairly defensive, leaving Geo free to roam and feed the strikers.

I like Koren, he's very good on the ball and can create something from nothing, but the way he plays really isn't fitting in with the rest of the team at the moment. I'll be happy if he stays, but I won't be at all surprised if he goes in the summer.

I think it depends who we get on the wings. I can definately see this working for us:

    Chester, Evans
    Fast winger, Koren, Stewart

    Fryatt

Thinking about it though, with Cardiff likely to go up we're planning without Gerrard so it'll be Hobbs and Chester at CB, with Danns and Evans in the two 'defensive' midfield roles.

I'm not so sure. Gerrard signed for Cardiff in July 2009, assuming a normal contract of three years, then he only has one year to run. He knows he's not in Cardiff's plans, he knows he is very much in ours and he's probably been offered the captaincy if he signs permanently.

Assuming Cardiff go up, then in he's in for a big wage hike, but if my assumptions are correct, then it's only for one season. If he gets the offer of a good three year deal from us, then it might still be in his long term interest to take up our offer.

Just guesswork, but I wouldn't make any assumptions just yet.

I would also be suprised if he stays but will he be missed that much? I have a sneaking feeling we will find out next season, but would also be happy if he does stay although i dont think he would be in the starting 11 that much, NP likes his width.

We also have the option next season of (assuming we do sign him) Danns and Koren in the middle of 4 with Evans and Koren being changeable dependant on opposition.

garcia should be our right winger next season,..when interviewed after the game today and asked why it was such a big improvement at home...Fryatt said there where a few reasons, but in his opinion the selection of garcia was the biggest...quite a compliment considering he wasnt on long..

I think Gerrard has 2 years to run on his current deal at Cardiff. Still, I have a feeling that he is keen to join us next season whatever division us and Cardiff are in.

I see him as the only real leader on the pitch, so is our obvious choice for captain in August if we do sign him. My personal player of the season - I don't see too many disagreements with that?
