Wolves have just said that they are open to offers for vokes. I would like to have him at cardiff. What does everyone else think? It would be nice to get some welsh players in.
Good squad player , but don't think he's the player were looking for goal scoring wise , worth a punt dependent on fees and wages etc ( ie cheap)
Agreed. Still young and keen although has been injury prone. His goals per game record is not very good (30 in 143 club appearances) but in fairness he has been out on loan 5 times since signing for Wolves in 2008 and many of those games have been from off the bench. If he can stay fit and play regularly his gpg record will improve. However, Malky might see money spent on him as a risk particularly with Rudy being in a similar category. Against that it would be good to have 2 young, strong centre forwards (if Malky wants more than just a one option plan B) vying for the position each week. healthy for competition and would help rotate the squad. I also wonder how Simon Church will fare at Reading taking into account their summer signings and his relatively few opportunities last season. His record is 26 goals in 146 games so not dissimilar to Vokes and has also been hit with injuries. He is a couple of inches shorter but always seems to look threatening in the air against us.
he's not welsh, he's never lived in wales, he qualifies through his grandfather. in any case he's crap and i'd rather use someone from the academy as back up as thats all he'd be. soz awyr
It's arwr and he plays for wales so that's good enough for me. He loved scoring for wales against norway so you could say he is a proud welshman
Swamp = I think I preferred you as SKM. I don't think he's crap. I have the reservations I listed but if the price was right he would be worth a punt. He has never had a regular game since signing for Wolves and with a bit of motivation and encouragment he could be a useful player. Lets be honest, if you had a choice, Vokes or Nat Jarvis (6 goals in 37 Div 2/Conference games) who is the better option?
The problem with a strikers game is it's usually built on confidence. With Vokes his injuries and the amount of times he has been loaned out would affect his confidence. Now with Malkys new age training methods and fitness regime it may be something that would improve Vokes confidence and allegedly Malky is a good motivator. So if really really cheap I'd give him a contract of 2 years to see how he beds in.
yea i was there when he scored that class goal vs norway but doesnt really strike me as someone who is a. good enough and b. better than what we've already got.. anyway he'll probably go out on loan again and go on a free next year... now at a free anyones worth a punt but not at £500k + as i think he'd be a waste....just my opinion..
No problem mate, that's what this is all about. Would any of us ever make football managers? I doubt it. I ran a team in the Cardiff & District League for a year or 2 but threw Teddy from the pram when players just failed to turn up with no notice. The worst one being when someone rang in saying they were unfit when clearly they were in the boozer for lunch - unless he had fruit machines and cash tills at home.
yea clearly i'm not an expert but surely theres a reason why a. he hasnt been given a run by wolves and b. no club has signed him permanently in the last 4 eyars? i just remember last year people were talking about him on here, i suspect his level is lower championship or league 1, but as i said i think he'll go out on loan again and join a club in the leagues i mention..
Totally agree with Swamp, plenty have had a close look with all the loans he's had and no ones taken him. I see wolves as major rivals next season, surely signing their rejects cant be a great way to start? He's a signing that smacks of an acceptance of mediochracy, with the time he's taking (including last January) I really hope mm has better lined up.
I think we must remember loaning a player out does not always mean a club trying to off load the player. Having said that he seems to have not lived up to his early career hype. Hope the lad gets a club that can get him fi and playing consistently. As I said earlier may be a good signing for us if he was very, very cheap.
we must also remember that this player hasnt nailed down a starting 11 position at a club in 4 years. and that if he's not good enough for wolves then he wont be good enough for us. and yes he'd might be worth a look if he was very cheap but he's out of contract next year so why not wait a year?
Swamp, agree his playing career seems to have not really got started for one reason or another. Not sure he's the calibre we need right now and I'm sure Malky and his team are looking for a more prolific goal scorer.
Just at the moment I'm not sure Malky and his team would recognise a goal scorer if they fell over one in the street. I jusy hope to god they prove me wrong, and the sooner the better.
I think Joe Mason will be the main man in the next season being supported by the new guy and Rudy (when if ever he is fit)
I think the midfield is key to our striker problem. Last season Kenny ran his nuts off tracking back to get the ball. We need the midfield to feed the strikers a lot quicker and open up the attacking options. It then remains to be seen how Malky utilises the new strike force.
Just got back from abroad. If id come back and wed signed Vokes I would not be happy. League 1 player at best. Seen Church mentioned. He can go and join Bristol Rovers and play alongside Vokes. Not good enough.
