Hyam is the best midfielder we've had on our books since Joe Royle's side. Failing to have a structured approach to building a side is the reason we're treading water. Loans may help with results in the very near term but in the long term it hinders us. It benefits Spurs though.
I am sure he has been watched a considerable amount. He sounds like he is a Bullard replacement. He must have more miles in his legs than Bully. however that said i don't like the idea of any more loans that will not benefit the future of the club. I can see the logic in an experienced Striker from premier league as a good gamble to fire us upto the premiership or a wiley centre back but a very young centre midfielder when we have the like of Hyam, Drury and Stephenson doesn't seem the right area to be overloading. When was the last time we said " We have far too many quality centre backs"
Does anybody here think it's a good idea... Paul Jewell has said that Kello signing depends on how much is in the pot. He doesn't think we can afford three keepers... but somehow we can afford a dozen midfielders including this chap...
I'm slightly apprehensive about it for the reasons I've previously said but the proof will be in the pudding as they say!!
Well it would be wonderful if we could just throw players in and see how they do and discard them if they turn out to be no good and then replay the matches they underperformed in, unfortunately that's not how it works... so PTC would you be bringing him in on loan, or would you stick to signing permanent talent and maybe the odd loan signing where we're desperate... I.e centre back and striker... ?
Got it in 1 hampy, loan players should be last resort to bulk the team up in areas where we are short.
He will be a 'nice to have' but not an essential and in a threadbare squad we have many other priorities! What a shambles!
How many years have we been saying 'give the manager time... let's see if it works... let's see how he does...' What needs to happen has been blindingly obvious to most of us and thankfully now 90% of that is happening. If we take more than one other player on loan tho, the optimism and excitement I'm feeling about the new season will crumble in an instant.
Odd.... This looks like we're doing Spurs a favour, not the other way round. However..... "Hyam is the best midfielder we've had on our books since Joe Royle's side. " Sorry, but THAT is biggest load of bollocks ever posted on the internet ever He can run round and tackle / kick people but in all honesty he's not good enough, which is possibly why we've bought this guy in.
Blue monkey THAT is the biggest load of bollocks He is the best passer on our books by some distance. Latest tweet: "Starting this trek to Ipswich" ... i.e an hour and a half tops from Chigwell. Now I'm inspired.
If its such a trek, tell him to **** off. Blue Monkey, Hyam is one of those players that does all the dirty work that a midfielder has to do and gets none of the credit, a bit like David Batty or Nicky Butt gets his toe in, breaks attacks up or at the very least interrupts the attacking flow of the opposition. good sides always needs these type of players.
to be fair it all depends on how much of his wages we are contributing to the deal. If we are paying out cash that could otherwise be used to sign some players then it is mad. If spurs dont want cash but have put him out on loan to gain first team experience and he turns out to be better than what we have then its a win/ win situation. I would love it if we could get promoted with only our own players in the squad but I bet everyone of you would accept promotion with a team of loanees than a struggle with our own players if you had to make the choice. If spurs have given him to us for next to nothing and it means we can have two keepers in the squad that everyone thinks can do a job then great. Im actually half expecting us to sign Kello, release/ sell ALB and register Wright as a player-coach.
" Hyam is the best midfielder we've had on our books since Joe Royle's side. " I see you have a good sense of humour! While I will say Hyam is a decent/ promising player I don't believe he's our best central midfielder of the last 6 years. I had a lot of time for Legwinski..... class player!
**** me, as soon as a transfer window opens everyone starts dribbling about Gio.... As astute and classy as he was, Legwinski's legs had pretty much gone though. Jimmy's loan spell was exceptional. Jon Walters (one man team) kept us up and Ian Westlake was awesome for one season. Hyam is far from the best midfielder in the squad, let alone the previous spurious claims. Horses for courses and all that, we've all got our favourites.... Why can't he get a game though? Same for Carson too, although his problems lie more in terms of attitude from what I've been told.
I must admit I was very excited when we signed Ivan Campo! However that one really didn't work out did it. Just how many central midfielders have we had since Joe Royle's time in all seriousness!? 1- Leadbitter 2- Healy 3- Legwinski 4- Ivan Campo 5- Leadbitter 6- Norris 7- Hyam 8- Stevenson 9- Walton 10- Noble 11- Trotter 12- Garvan 13- Drury 14- Sumilokovski ( spelling ! ) 15 - Quinn 16- Bullard 17- Andrews 18- Williams 19- Miller 20- O'Callaghan 21- Colback 22- Livermore 23- Bowyer I'm sure I must be missing quite a few others too! Who else have we had? Looking through that pile, I think it's fair to say we've often been lacking a bit of quality in the middle of the park....
