Fully agree we only need lonee's in areas we are short or if they bring in some real class. He may do the later, but i expect he'll end up llike Livermore did, start a few but spend most of his time coming off the bench. Im quiet happy with Bullard, Hyme, Dury and Stevenson.

Saying that if we do sign him I'll give the lad a chance....
 
I do think a priority position for us is a sitting Midfielder. We have a lot of attackminded fairly creative players who can play CM or slightly further up the pitch, what we lack is a solid CM playmaker and maybe some natural wingers. It seems this guy fits the bill for a CM playmaker, he may well be a good player for us but I feel we could've done with getting someone with a little more experience/some leadership skills to play this role rather than a young loan player.

We have some decent midfielders but all of them are relatively inexperienced at this level or higher with the exception of Bullard!! I think we needed an experienced CM to come in and boss the midfield whilst passing on his experience to the others.
 
What PTC?? We have Luke Hyam! This loan signing would be a waste of space. The only loan signings worth making are players who can make a difference singlehandedly to the outcome of a game like Gio or dare I say it Lukaku, otherwise we're better off blooding our own youngsters
 
Well all i can say is you were all creaming your pants when Brian Klug arrived . He as obviously worked with this guy at Tottenham and i'm sure would of been heavily involved in the decision whether to get him on loan or not . So if Klug has the savvy they say then i'm quite happy with this one .

Yes I agree we have Luke Hyam but he is our only midfielder who isn't attack minded, we always needed to bring someone else in as competition or cover. I would have preffered a permanent signing with a bit of experience (as our midfield has very little) someone like Hayden Mullins whos gone to Birmingham. I feel we needed a solid CM at this level to pull the team together.

I would've prefer this not to be a loan signing and it may well prevent Hyams progress (who PJ as of yet doesn't seem convinced of) unless PJ is going to go like Man City and play with 2 sitting CM's. How do you know a player like Luongo won't make a difference, I geuss we will have to wait and see before you say he is a waste of space, he seems highly rated. I'm not going to be highly critical of the signing especially after what we hace had to put up with in the past few years!!

Jack Colback was superb on loan for us. Who'd heard of him prior to his arrival?

Loans are there to be used, and used correctly. Other clubs are capable of this, we often recently haven't been. A seasonal loan for a talented player on cheap wages makes perfect sense to me.

For people who have the perspective of " we're doing another club a favour long-term, football has become much more a short-term business / game than it previously was. We need results soon, and I see this signing ( if it happens ) as very very low risk.

Also, lets look closer at our central midfield options - do we currently have a top 6 central midfield? Not in my eyes, no.

Bullard - IF IF IF he sorts himself out/ wants to play/ if he's fit. What are the chances of that happening?
Hyam - Just how good is he? Sure, he has good games but how convinced if Jewell by him? I'm not sure he is. Also, even if Jewell is and Hyam plays in the majority of games, is he top 6 level? Not sure he is right now either, over time perhaps......
Stevenson - Looks a good signing, certainly for the money. Is likely to play better next season with a proper preseason/ now he's fitted into the side. However, how good is he?
Drury - Took his chance last season, good on the ball and I like him as a player. However, how good is he in comparison to others in the league?

Central midfield isn't our weakest area by any means. Leadbitter going for me is addition by subtraction, he was useless until he needed a new contract. Sums up footballers in general to me. However, I feel if we're going to compete in the upper regions we could do with a bit more quality. Heard good things about this guy, lets see if he is.

A) PTC its been a while since I felt such contempt for one of your posts... utter nonsense.

B) I was excited about Klug heading up our youth academy, not telling us that Spurs have some above average youngsters, we already know that!

But seriously explain to me what is utter nonsense in that post? you sure you just didn't read your own post again?
 
PTC - you say a priority Is a holding midfielder - when it's the only position we don't need to strengthen.

Westlake - Colback did alright for us, far from earth-shattering, and how are we any further forward as a club for having him? Sunderland have a player ready for the first team on our time. If we didn't have all these ridiculous loan signings taking up wages and places on the pitch we could easily have been paying better wages for all the players we say are demanding too much money and blooding our own youngsters.

The loan thing is not going to get us anywhere, thank god FIFA are doing away with the emergency loan window.

Now that is utter nonsense, the only player we have who can play as a holding midfielder is Hyam, all of the others are attacking midfielders!! Hyam may be decent and may turn out to be a good player but he's a player PJ has his reservations about and he has also only played a handful of games, he's pretty inexperienced we need another player to be able to play in that position and as I said preferably someone with some experience.

As for loans I don't think you'd find anyone is a big fan of them, but there have been many successful loans, all of our managers have used them, there's no need to throw the baby out with the bath water!!
 
Although midfield is the last area of the pitch that I think we need to strengthen, I would have to say that if we do bring in a central midfielder it would have to be a sitting 1. As PTC has said, we only really have hyam who is defensively minded and over 46 or more games thats asking alot of 1 young and inexperienced player. Having said that I dont know how our own fringe/ youth players naturally play.
I think Jewell said he wanted 3 extra players. We know 1 is a striker, possibly another keeper as I dont think he is convinced by ALB and I think personally I would prefere another defensive option as the 3rd, although Im still not sure what we are going to do to replace Murphy.
 
Can't see the sense in this really, i would much rather give players like Hyam and the young french kid we are trying to sign rather than somebody else's talent. If we need a loanee, why not a striker or wide player?

Obviously they must have seen a lot of this kid in reserve games and Klug knows him, just doesn't seem any sense!

Can anybody remember when loans were for looking at players to sign rather than just giving young players first team games!
 
Not understanding the negative posts here, by all accounts this guy is a good player, and surely we need good players. Stevenson has only played a few games for us, and the jury is still out. Hyam can do a job to a certain extent, but perhaps a one trick pony. Drury has played some good games for us, but then again has been fairly ordinary in others. A fit, commited, Jimmy Bullard would be great, but not sure that he can do this over an entire season, sure he can spray the ball around, especially if he is played in an advanced position, but can not chase back to pick up opposition midfielders, obviously has not got it in his legs.
 
I suppose the whole issue is truthseeker, having a loanee is only a short term fix. Chances are he won't come here permanent so the club isn't really that much further forward, and have guys like Hyam who still doesn't get a continued run in the side so nobody will ever know if they are a one trick pony or a fifteen trick pony!
