Barnard didn't go to France...he won't make the 1st team without cholera hitting the side.

    Is that including Palace?

EDIT: Just seen it isn't it's who he'll sign for if anyone. Still, remarkable gap..

Transfer strategy at its finest - just buy a young promising keeper? Why not spend upwards of £10m on another!

Butland adds another couple of mil to his over inflated price.

The odds are for which club he signs for in the summer transfer window. Last time i looked at these prices we were 8/1.

Every English players transfer worth is inflated. (Apart from the odd one such as Clyne)

Clyne was cheap because he was out of contract. We had to pay a fee for him because he was under 23, if he was over that age then he would have cost us nothing.
Thank god he didn´t have two years remaining on his deal because Palace would have wanted ridiculous money for him.

He was cheap because when he was at Chelsea he was put out on loan to the other clubs or he was in the Chelsea reserves. He was never going to play first team football for Chelsea so they didn´t value him at all....lucky for us.

It was closer to £750,000.... Would be worth 10 times that now.

Less than a million wasn't it? Point is, there are always bargains to be had, as the likes of Clyne and Steve Davis demonstrate, as well as players like Cork who are not valued by the big teams. Not all English players are overvalued, but when teams like Liverpool pay silly money for some then you can see why people have that impression.

Yep that's why I said the odd one here and there. As you said Clyne would have cost us a small fortune.

As for Cork **** knows how we got him for cheap, Chelsea must have had a crazy turn.

They just saw no future for him there so let him go cheap so he could have a career somewhere else. What amazes me is that there wasn't more competition for his signature, but I'm far from sorry about how it turned out!

Birmingham don't want to sell and therefore Butland's price inflated. They can also see that a good Olympics could wake up the big guns. A bit like the Chamberlain situation for us..we got silly money because we didn't want to sell, but he may well be viewed as a bargain in the future. Birmingham are making sure they don't lose out now. We won't be spending 10 million on a GK any time soon.
