It's interesting that the majority of our transfer dealings seem to be out in the press, all of our latest signings have been announced in the press before they were on the OS. I don't think this is a difference in our behind closed doors policy, it's interesting that it seems the press are much better at hounding and working things out when they can draw premier league audiences to read their articles.

Just shows there's more interest so they're willing to put the work in. If they put the same effort in they'd get just as much about lower league transfers.

The Buttner deal was widely confirmed too but turned out not to be done. Writing transfer stories in the press is just a probability game, most of them will turn out not to be true and the deals we've done so far weren't really confirmed in the press until just before they were completed. The Steven Davis story seemed to get reported on Twitter about 20 seconds before the OS story went up. Moral of the story - it's not true until it's on the Saints OS.

Not really the point he was making. Although we may wish to do business 'behind closed doors' it will often, if not always, be reported. This includes negotiations that are in progress, and that subsequently may not be completed. We all know that just because a paper reports something doesn't make it a certainty, but the broader point that all of our transfers have been reported beforehand is absolutely right.

don't really rate dann, he did well at birmingham because of mcleish's incredibly negative tactics

I think Fonte will struggle to get regular games this season. I rated him in league one and was okay in the championship. For me he climbs over the opposition a lot - which isn't a bad thing, if we were playing in the 90's. With the referees we now have everything is penalised.

The reason everyone thinks Dann is quality is the defensive record of Birmingham when in the PL. Thing is - as an individual he's nothing special and immobile to say the least - but the massively defensive tactics when that ginger Scot was in charged made everyone think he was amazing. Probably why Arsenal's interest amounted to nothing.
