Does make you wonder though, would the Welsh maybe boo the national anthem when the Women's Team play in Cardiff on Wednesday?

I doubt it. Anyway, looking at the latest ticket sales, there wont be anybody there to boo...

I always thought Great Britain was just the big island which has most of England, Scotland and Wales on it, nothing to do with the country of the UK which includes other bits. For some reason we let Northern Irish athletes compete for the Republic of Ireland.

Great Britain is the island we're on, Ireland is a different island, hence United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, so GB itself isn't NI.

Yeah I get that bit, but why aren't we "Team UK"? Northern Irish athletes represent the Republic of Ireland at the Olympics. Actually I think they can be either, I'm not sure.

Anyway who cares about that, Cork is on. :)

haha england should defo not use jerusalem, so long and boring! at the commenwealth games whenever it was played the commentators were running out of things to say! the athletes looked slightly bored after its 87 minute duration of standing on the podium...

The United Kingdom of Great Britain & NI is actually a more complicated affair than one might think. It's usually at points like this that people show their ignorance because, either they have learned the correct configuration and have forgotten it, or have never really learned it, because it isn't quite as straightforward as one might think it. Down through the years, I've found myself forgetting the correct configuration. Luckily, with the Net, one doesn't stay uninformed for long. The first few paragraphs of this Wikipedia article is accurate. Do note that The British Isles is a larger and more inclusive area than the UK only.

Incidentally, I've just had the misfortune of seeing a newspaper advert on the TV, where several excited faces are telling us they are offering Team GB flags to wave at presumably other excited faces. Frankly, it makes me want to puke. I am so uninterested in that kind of rubbish.

True. But what U23 Scots would be in? I'm sure there's some slipping my mind.

Yep, I would have been surprised if he hadn't been included, given the chance.

Yeah possibly, and Matt Phillips who I've just thought of. Not that either of those are actually Scottish.

Yep him too. I'd much rather have Rhodes in than Sordell, for example.

Shame it's being played at M'Boro, I would have thought that would have guaranteed a sleepy, meagre crowd.
