If I were to run Swansea City everyone would be required to spend the time I'm paying for to the devotion of Swansea City.....not watching football on their mobiles/computers. But obviously that's not the culture at Swansea City or we would still be in the 4th Division. I bet if you asked Huw he'd say he's not happy about it but didn't want to be the only chairman to say no and risk a player revolt. I have a hunch that a black mark will be against these players now and if they hit a bad spell Laudrup will simply replace rather than persevere. Replacing these players wouldn't be stupid. It would be logical even for Laudrup to take the £20-30 million for Scott Sinclair and Allen and reinvest. You think Laudrup doesn't know of a better left-back than Neil Taylor?! Your entire argument is based on sentiment. If I were Huw I'd be letting Liverpool know (and informing Allen) that if they want little Joe they'll have £20 million in Swansea's bank account by this Friday or he'll be staying for the season. Then Rodgers and the Liverpool board can deal with the fans demanding to know why their £20 million signing won't be turning up for training until the season has started and Laudrup can get on with bringing in more top quality players. If Liverpool don't cough up he should then announce to the press that Allen was oferred to Liverpool but they couldn't afford him or Liverpool didn't value him as highly as the likes of Henderson and so he'll be staying for another season at least....and knock all of Rodgers' bollocks on the head. We'll see what unfolds.
Terror I'm on holiday so not really wasting company time, also as the company I work for gives some latitude for the Olympics we won't take the piss. As for the club and players, you look at international players and they carry a premium to buy, that is partly because of the higher profile they get for taking part in those games. You speak of high profile players replacing those you don't want , Sinclair, Allen and Taylor , what happens if they get picked for internationals ? Perhaps you'll want to sell them as well ? Maybe Vorm should go as he may be picked for holland ? They are playing for their country whether it's Wales Holland or in TeamGB , they have a right to play for them if picked, there are enough moans about giggs choosing team over country, now you want our players to do exactly the same. The double standards is breathtaking at times on here. I am working today in Cardiff, I am having a bit of banter with Cardiff fans, asking them what they think about TeamGB and they are for it for the most part, only reservation is its to close to the start of the season, and that is it. Not that it concerns them as they have no players in it.
I'm sorry. Didn't you say earlier that you were encouraged to watch Olympic football games on your mobile on company time? There are Internationals playing in the Championship, League 1 and even League 2. Only inflates your value if you play for a good International team. I've repeatedly said I've no problem with International football using our players, just not Best of the rest U-23, with a few ringers, Competitions. For some reason this doesn't seem to be sinking in. In football their country is Wales not GB. The standard of your logical thought process is breathtaking.
So none of our players should play for Wales u21 then, not being consistent are you ? As for my company, I am in the states on holidays from Sunday so not on company time. When I come back I am in slough for a week and can use my company mobile for streaming video if I want, that week is also my holidays.
In football by the way, Wales is not the only nation that Olympic players are from, there is England also. So you are a bit ignorant aren't you ?
Valley, not having a go at you personally mate, I have often found your posts interesting/entertaining etc. But on this subject it is you that have proved themselves to be an ignoramus. None of the English players representing team GB played for England in the Euros and it is extremely unlikely that any of them will be required to play for England come the first game of the World Cup qualifiers. England is risking nothing for team GB. Wales on the other hand will most likely start the World Cup qualifiers hampered by several of our first team carrying over bookings, and/or injuries and suspensions (nevermind the FIFA's potential abolition of the Celtic nations argument). Our players are senior Welsh Internationals, apart from Giggs, and should be putting Wales and our World Cup qualifiers first. They are not and are thus disloyal. End of argument as far as anyone with any sense is concerned. (before you question this imagine England lining up in their first competitive fixture this year missing Wayne Rooney because he wanted to play at being an Olympian a few weeks earlier....imagine for one second what Alex Ferguson would have to say about Rooney missing pre season in it's entirety. It would be the beginning of the end for Rooney at Old Trafford. It's alright for the likes of Giggs and Beckham, they are practically retired. Ask yourself why Pearce didn't pick someone like Rooney as one of the ringers. Can you tell me why? Pearce and Team GB are taking the piss out of Wales and Swansea City mate)
Because for the last few days I will be, and as I am in the country for a week after my states holiday I will be using it as I wish.
Complete rubbish, they said that anyone playing in the euros would not be considered for the Olympics , it's not taking the piss it's a fact! As for bookings etc, so because they are playing they will get a ban if booked when they return to play for Wales. It's a totting up system so yes there is a small chance, but without looking I don't believe they are on any cards right now. The disloyalty thing is complete crap, they are not disloyal according to you when playing for Wales, but are when playing for our country utter drivel mate! No matter what you say terror like Superswan has already mentioned its happening, no matter how much you cry about it nothing can be done now. I am really looking forward to the games and the Olympics in general, just wish I could have been here to see it all.
Me too valley , I love the Olympics . Bothers me a bit that organizations like UEFA , FIFA & even the FAW come swinging their big sticks , where they don't belong . To throw in with these organizations , against the Olympic dream , is a mistake .
It hasn't been for decades now, the modern games generates about £4bn , and the athletes taking part make their living for the most part in sport.
The Olympic dream is different with every individual pursuing it . Players getting hurt in the Olympics & not being able to play for Wales qualifiers isn't a whole lot different from players playing for Wales in qualifiers & getting injured then unable to play for their club team , except for the fact the club team actually pays them to play.
This was a promising thread, and the only one I had seen, I was quite interested but all this nationalist/political stuff is such a waste of everyone's life! It's happening, get over it. If anyone wants to talk about the tactics, team, etc, send me a message with an uncorrupted thread seeya, Jacks
The host country, so after the build costs and everything to do with running it, ticket sales and other merchandise. Also it boosts businesses in and around each venue. The added bonus is that training facilities have been built for this in Swansea it's the swimming pool in other areas it will be other things. Plus as the para-Olympics will be also , there will be a huge boost for disabled athletes. the sporting world doesn't revolve around football, there will be benefits for a variety of sports around the UK. Exciting stuff I say, and I've just noticed that an Olympian is someone I know, or more precisely her father, wish he was here to see his daughter compete.
Article I found on the web; 2012 TO LOSE £5 BILLION John Armit, head of the Olympic delivery authority told a private meeting in London that he had no forecasts for the amount of money that London would stand to benefit as a result of the games. While he was clear that the 2012 Olympics would cost over £9 billion to mount, plus £2 billion for security, it appears that the man in charge of building the Olympic infrastructure had no figures at all for the possible financial return. At the meeting, organised by Editorial\Intelligence.com, Armit was reduced to quoting an old estimate by economists that the games would generate £20 billion of activity. He agreed this would equate to perhaps £3-4 billion in revenue for the Treasury - So in return for over £10 billion investment it looks like UK plc will get back just £4 billion, plus a White Elephant sports stadium, 20,000 short term jobs (many carried out by specially recruited overseas workers) and a vast new shopping centre in East London which will funnell customers away from their own communities. I thank you...
Yeah I agree mate, we've had a number of threads about TeamGB on here, they have all descended to this crap on here. It may be worthwhile creating a new thread to discuss football, kindly requesting the people who are against the Olympics and the game's politics to not bring that thread down to the level here.
Terror how much does it cost to run the world cup ? How much does it cost to run the euros ? What legacy do they give ? You could argue until the cows come home and throw statistics proving one thing or another all day. But the Olympics give a positive image of the UK instead of what is out there now. We are in the middle of the biggest recession ever, there is not a lot to put a smile on people's faces at the moment, events like the Olympics, Euro 2012 , Wimbledon and others give us a bit of relief from the reality that successive governments and the banks have left us. I wish people would realise this is good for our country instead of calling it a waste of time and money, oh and the athletes are disloyal tossers.
