Just seen on the clubs Facebook page that Ledley has had to retire because of injury.

What a legend and one of my all time favourite players, some big boots to fill

He will stay with club as we all expected he would... Sad day IMO

It's not going to come as a shock to anyone, but Ledley King has officially retired from playing football.
He's staying on at the club in an ambassadorial role, which is something, but there's no doubt that he'll be missed.

I'm sure that we'd all like to thank him for all of the outstanding performances down the years.
It would be nice to have an opportunity to do it at the Lane, in some form of testimonial.

EDIT: Beat me to it!

A day to remember the best defender I've seen in the flesh. Not unexpected, but very sad.

Great natural defender. I can only re-quote what Henry said about him in order to highlight King's qualities.

I don't like defenders who hold the shirts of other players. The only defender here who doesn't do that and still gets the ball off my feet easily is Ledley King.

He is the only guy who doesn't hold players. He will get the ball off you without you even noticing. For me, that is a good defender.

He plays without any contact yet is somehow still strong and gets the ball without doing any fouls.

The Club can announce that there will be a Testimonial Match for Ledley King at the Lane where our fans and the wider footballing family can honour this outstanding player.

Chairman, Daniel Levy, commented, "It will undoubtedly be a special night at the Lane, the chance for fans and teammates to pay tribute to our longest-serving, not to mention one of the most gifted players in the history of the Club."

The celebration of Ledley's career will take place at the end of the 2012/2013 season, with the opposition determined at a later date. The Club will work with Ledley's Testimonial Committee to ensure this is a fitting tribute and we shall keep fans updated as plans progress.

What a night that's going to be!

Sad to think we'll never see him out on the pitch playing at the Lane again but it's the right move for all concerned.

Towards the end of the season you could see he was struggling and it must be a relief in some way for Ledders to be able to finally give his knees the rest they need. Fantastic servant to the club and am glad to see he' sticking with us in an ambassadorial role.

Nice to see the club read my comment and decided to have a testimonial for him... <whistle>

I love that clip, the sort of defending that gets you on your feet applauding as much as some goals would.

Sad to hear he is retiring, true legend, shame his career has been cut short and that he ain't been able to play more, he is the type of player any club wants, a player who is so loyal and plays his whole career at one club.

absolutely gutted, yet we all knew it was coming.

Legend. - a worst that is overused, but it's days like today where it's meaning couldn't be more perfect.

I remember his debut, against Liverpool (i think) he played right back and Liverpool were a better team then.
The commontator said that he was a natural defender and would grace the white shirt of Spurs for many years to come.
How right he was.
<applause> and I raise my <ale> to you thanks for the great memories "The King of White Hart Lane"

Would just like to echo what has been said and just add that he will be remembered as a rolls royce player and some who always gave everything for the team and fans good luck to him with whatever he does next!!
