The problem with belief is that it has no basis in knowledge, therefore it's narrow perspective of the world has no place in education. In some cases belief may be quite pernicious; for instance many people have been presented with a very scary alternative (ie Hell, with fire and ugly beasts with pointy sticks etc), or fear in myth in Satan, or guilt due to teeny-tweeny ****ing or staring at cleavage, or generally partying ...it's not all Mother Theresa and donating tins of soup in Autumn is it folks?
1. Well that's a complete lie. Even in America, where the split amongst the general population between those who believe in Creation and those who don't is virtually 50:50, only 1 in 400 scientists believe in the 6-Day hypothesis. 2. About the only thing you've said that makes any sense, though I disagree with the manner you have written this (though abiogenesis is the idea that is currently held to be true). You are implying that because we don't know with much certainty the ORIGIN of life, we cannot accept, discuss or teach EVOLUTION, an unrelated subject entirely. 3. We know full well what God COULD do. It is irrelevant when debating if He did - or even if He exists. That is circular reasoning. 4. Completely incorrect. Even Answers In Genesis, the Creationist website, has posted an article saying this is an incorrect and worthless argument on your part. http://www.answersingenesis.org/creation/v15/i4/moondust.asp 5. A complete lie out of desparation. It has been proven, and without it agriculture and medicine as we now know it would fall apart. 6. Dreaming about a man with a beard means nothing. Please show me some evidence about these crackpots. 7. And? What is your point? If it isn't Christianity, it goes against your argument anyway, and tells a different tale of Creation. Also, it's called FAITH for a reason. Numbers mean nothing. 8. There are approximately 1 BILLION atheists worldwide. As I said above though, that alone proves nothing. 9. Not at all. I have a capacity to imagine myself flying. Does that mean I can fly? Does it mean that either I or someone else, somewhere in the world, has wings? 10. So out of 2,000 years since the dawn of Christianity, you pick the 20th century alone to demonstrate that it has never been the cause of a war? Hmm... 11. Well I've managed it. 12. Good luck on Saturday (we're awful at home)!
What will finish first? This thread or the Rangers takeover? What will reach a million first? This thread or 'The First Thread to a Million Replies' thread?
****ing hell, I didn't respond to him because I thought he was a WUM! You think he believes the **** he wrote?
I am not and have never been one of the Village People. NOBODY will be sailing in me (and **** knows what kind of liquid substance you think they'd be sailing on).
He can't be that informed if he's promoting 'evidence' of Creation that has even been debunked by other Creationists.
No, he's saying Evolution and The Big Bang are mistruths, whilst promoting a Christian-Creation view of a 6 day creation. How is he doing this? Well, amongst other lies/distorted info he mentioned the 'moon dust' argument, that not only was untrue in the first place but is also included on a list of 'arguments not to use' on one of the leading Creationist websites. My point is that he's even misinformed about his own arguments. Creationism isn't a viable scientific theory. It's a hypothesis that was proven incorrect a loooong time ago.
I can't believe the mileage on this thread, can we all just not agree to wait until we all die, and if nothing happens there is no creator, but if we wake up with 4 million virgins and a 24 crate of Stella and 5 gram there is?
He was presenting a perspective. Its up to him to argue the toss with you over it. Not me. Like I say, I wouldn't be arguing them with you but I'd like to hear what he has to say in response to your rebuttal.
I wasn't arguing with you, just explaining that he isn't 'examining different theories' as you say, but wrongly rejecting one using evidence that is ignored even by his fellow believers. Not arguing with you!
Being a newcomer I was pleasantly surprised regards the general forum and this topic in particular as it is a subject I have recently taken an interest in. To lighten the load and broaden the subject matter just a little I recomend the following featuring the brilliant George Carlin..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzEs2nj7iZM&feature=related he says it so more eloquently than me......
