Last season 37 points was enough for survival in the PL. Several of us predicted that a total of that order would be enough. How do we see it this coming season? The consensus seems to be that the league this year will be a bit tougher for teams outside the top six. That suggests to me that a higher total will be needed, closer to the conventional safety mark of 40 points.

<grr> We're obviously in frivolous mood this morning, everywhere from Somerset to Chiang Mai. This is a deeply serious question requiring a scientific approach. I'll wait for an answer from Cruyff's Turn; he's a more serious minded fellow. <ok> <laugh>

I dunno what everyone else's excuse is but I think the sun has got to me today <ok>

Don't rub it in Thai. We've forgotten what the sun looks like here. It's so bad folk in Somerset are reported suffering from S.A.D and taking to the malt. <ok>

Suspect it might be a bit tighter in the bottom half of the table this year. Perhaps closer to the traditional 40 point requirement too. I know a lot of people say they'd be happy with 17th etc but I don't think my nerves can take it. I'll be very happy with a 12th place finish and a decent 6 point buffer throughout. I don't want to be part of the final day Survival Sunday drama thanks!

37 points has been enough on 9 occasions in the last 12 and 35 on 6 of them.I see no reason to suppose that this season will be any different. 36 points is my guess.
